reserve_paths function and [pf] functions guidance

Do any of you engage the reserve_paths function? What's its usefulness to you? What fraction of your gameplay might you keep it set to true?

Is there any guidance I could readily refer to about all the [pf] functions lodged in the configuration file? The penalty flags, for example, interest me, although I don't wish to fiddle with them by trial and error without - hopefully - some explanatory reference sheet or guide.

after looking a bit through the code, i think the reserve_paths setting helps you when you frequently mix path and non-path signals. it might prevent crashes in some fringe cases. i've never even heard of this setting before.

i don't think many people use this.

Aha! thank you, especially from having just replied another member on another thread that I've never succeeded at combining plain (non-path) and path signals together, because my trains always got lost.
