I usually get confused about this, and sometime I need it to communicate with others in coop games. Which Side is North?

The top corner of the map is north.

It's neither top left nor top right, it's the top corner. This is also the origin of the coordinates.

The missing third option is the correct one: Internally, the top center corner is called north. What every usually calls straight track, and roads too, are laid out in NE-SW and NW-SE directions.
