Too many goods, how to enhance station layout?

Post by supa »

Please take a look at the attached screenshot. Is there a way to increase the output of the station, because the trains just cannot leave as fast as keeping the balance in delivered goods would require? Any tips?

I am no big specialist, but the less efficient part of your layout seem to be the exit of your station.

I would personnaly try to build a "double exit" just like you did for the station entrance . Then from those 2 tracks the trains could access the diferent direction depending where the train goes.

Hope you understand what I meant... otherwise posting the savegame is always nice, so we can play a lite :)

It can also be more efficient to have a seperate station for raw materials and goods. that way they don't have to wait for eachother.

the_marshal: Hmm, hadn't thought about making a double-exit. I really haven't seen an example of one anywhere, do people use that kind of things?

I also added a savegame so you can take a shot at it, if you want to.

korenn: Yes, that's a good and an obvious enhancement. I would've liked to keep it with a one big station, but I guess it would be better to make another for delivering the goods.

yes two way exits are used.

I use them here:

(just to the right there's another 3 to 1 crossing and there's a 2x2 track leading to/from the station.

don't zip the savegames. It's compressed already. That's why OTTD uses zlib. I solved the problem like this

it took max 2 minutes to do and now there are no delay when the trains leaves the station

all goods transported by splitting

Post by worldofklaus »

I split the station into three parts, each of which has its own junctions (->screenshot)
I also added another platform to the station and took one platform of the grain and cattle part of the station on the left, so there are nine platforms now. Plus there are two new trains.

there are no traffic jams anymore...

why don't you use the buildin screenshot feature?
and if you switched to 640x480 before taking the screenshot, the forum would display the image right away instead of forcing the user to click

Woot, pretty nifty ideas I wouldn't have thought of, which is quite obvious, I guess, since I started this thread :-)

Thanks for input!
