Can towns build bridges over rail? level crossings disabled in settings

Can towns build bridges over rail? level crossings disabled in settings

Hi all,

I am having some trouble understanding the setting "Towns are allowed to build level crossings" setting.

I have this turned off because I do not want towns to build level crossings. However, do they build bridges over rail tiles instead if I have the above setting set to OFF?

Towns are not able to build bridges over rails, this setting would block town expansion if surrounded by rails.
BTW, there is patch for fix this, which allow town to make viaducts. (used for example in JGR patch pack).

Oooooo, I found the patch but the link to the post regarding the building of bridges of rails is broken:

Do you know where I can obtain the newgrf file (for the bridges over rail patch).

It is not possible to have newgrf for that.
Newgrf: new graphics (and some changed behaviours limited by grf system).
All other changed software behaviour must be handled by patches, eg. different software code.
Shortly speaking, you need to have different version of openttd binaries than standard one.
For example, JGR binaries (it is my favourite patch pack, it support many other fancy features such daylength).
Be aware, that patched versions are not compatible (in terms of save game or multiplayer) with standard one.

Ah, in that case I'll simply build the bridges myself then so that towns can continue to grow. Many thanks for your answers and when I start a new game I may look into using that patch.

Do you know when that patch will be updated to the newest version of OpenTTD? i.e. 1.7.1?

I noticed the pre-compiled upload is only 1.6.1
