Upgrading tracks?

Post by LaRoso »

Hey guys,
In a game, I normally start with electrified tracks and build up a huge network. But later, when the monorail comes, I would like to upgrade all the network with all the trains to monorail. But how do I do that, or is that even possible with a reasonably amount of work?
I think the money shouldn't be the problem
Cheers,
Lorenzo

Open the monorail panel, and then just select the convert tool.

You'll need to send all your trains to a depot though, so they don't get stranded. Then sell them and upgrade the station, and then rebuy your fleet.

Is it possible to copy orders between trains of different track types?

Yes, just don't sell all your old trains :)

So the way I do it is like that:
1. Get all the old trains into the depots.
2. Upgrade all the tracks but the depots
3. Build new depots from the new track type
4. Buy the new vehicles and copy the orders

yes, furthermore the empty depots can be converted without destroying them and repurchasing

Right, one new depot should be enough for the new vehicles. The rest I could convert

In NUTS, there is a track type that all trains can run on. This let me
1) send all to depot
2) upgrade tracks to momorail
3) upgrade depot track to. Universal
4) use in game vehicle upgrade system to upgrade trains
5) release trains from depot
6) put depot track to monorail.
There is no ?

Mass-upgrading is boring. I always build new lines with the new tracks, gradually shifting over.
In default you have to change all tracks, many NewGRFs allow to have a mixture of different track types to exist at the same time.

If you're not interested in upgrading, just start after the last track type becomes available, eliminating the need to ever upgrade.

@jules, NUTS / PURR let you do all that without the whole thing, just replace whole network to PURR, and let trains autoreplace smoothly :) much easier to do
