After reading this page, I have a fairly good idea on how the transfer and feeder station works.
https://wiki.openttd.org/Negative_incom ... er_service
But I do have a question, is the time transferred cargo sitting in the station, does it count toward the time penalty as if it is in a vehicle?
For example, lets say I have three stations. Station A transfer to B, Station B then move the cargo to station C.
A --transfer---> B --- transport ----> C
Station A transfer cargo to B, which takes 1 month. Then immediately it is picked up from B and then transported to C. Lets say B to C took 11 months. So the total payment is the direct distance between A to C, and the time penalty will be 12 months. This is simple and straight forward, and easy to understand.
Now, the exact scenario, except instead of being picked up from station B immediately, the cargo sits in station B for say, 6 months. Is the time penalty still 12 months? (ie, the amount of time it actually spend in a train/vehicle), or is the time penalty now 18 months (including the 6 months that the cargo was sitting in station B).
Thanks.
Does transferred cargo "age" in a station.

Re: Does transferred cargo "age" in a station.
Last I checked it does, and this can also effect cargo ratings at a station and towns rating if your tranfered cargos have a poor rating

Re: Does transferred cargo "age" in a station.
My understanding is that the cargo doesnt have an age characteristic, but rather a departure date.
Once it arrives at the destination the time will be calculated between the two dates and then the profit etc.
The cargos location during this journey is irrelevant.

That's wrong, it has age but no date: http://git.openttd.org/?p=trunk.git;a=b ... b=HEAD#l48Leanden wrote:My understanding is that the cargo doesnt have an age characteristic, but rather a departure date.
And as far as I can tell it only "ages" while in vehicle.

That's unbelievable, first time searching on the forum and the top post is exactly what I want to know
Any final answer on this?

Re: Does transferred cargo "age" in a station.
That depends on how you define "aging". Payment for cargo delivery depends only on travel time, waiting at a station doesn't count. But you get penalized otherwise if cargo waits at a station - station ratings drop, town authority isn't pleased and cargo vanishes if it waits too long.
