What is station rating?

I mean, I looked it up on the allmighty wiki, but it only explains how it is calculated. What does it affect? Is it worth to keep vehicles entering the station as young as possible or does the rating have just a small impact on the pax/cargo itself?

It determines how much cargo your station receives from the industry. E.g. 80% station rating means you're getting 80% of the produced cargo. If there are two stations it takes uses max rating and then splits cargo between them.

Renewing vehicles does improve station rating but usually it's more hassle than it's worth. If you absolutely need 100% rating it's better to build station near town and do regular advertisements.
