Finished with my game!!

Just wanted to show all of you the game I´m working at during the last few months. It´s based on the map of the Uk found somewhere (think the wiki, not sure), modified the cities to have a percentage of their real population at the beggining of the game (a very small one, of course). So, I based my game in getting two objectives:

- To provide every town a passenger train service
- To reach 1000 passenger trains working at the same time

With a couple of simple rules:

- The network must be extended from an existing station. Ex: If I have a line from Liverpool to Manchester, and want to give service to Preston, this must be done by connecting Preston with either Liverpool and Manchester, and so on.
- Network must be built in a realistic way (various stations in a row if possible ... etc) -except junctions (no PBS)
- Cargo or other passenger services are completely forbidden: Only passenger trains (you may see some mail waiting at some stations, this is because some engines using mail too which I didn´t transform)
- No cheating

-To check the savegame you need some GRF´s as shown in the picture and a nightly no older than 3 months.

- I would like to hear comments from you (what you like most, less...), and your opinion if I should add some objectives and go on!! (1000 buses, stablish a cargo network...)

- I included some savegames (and the final one, in year 2250, just after reaching 1000 trains) in the next link:

Ok, so I found the scenario modified by me! (that is, I added the towns in Ireland and mainland Europe). The towns have roughly 0,5% of their real population. That was a fair mesure I think. You should have TTRS to play this correctly, although you can obviously modify it to add industries or play with other sets as you like. Part of Ireland (the western coast) is cut due to an original heightmap miss, but shouldn´t affect in any way as I wouldn´t have added any towns in the missing area.

All the credits go to the original author (I apologise for not remembering his/her name, sorry!!!). I only added cities here and there to make it look more realistic, but didn´t care about the industries. However, this is the most complete UK scenario I´ve found so far.

Just checked out the game it sure is a nice map. Given your goal of a 1000 trains I expected a more complex network. I like it that you tried to make a "natural" network that co-exist with the landscape. The few hubs I saw did slow down the trains, for instance on the hub near plymouth there is even a 45 degree turn. To take more advantage of the map I would have chosen longer trains for the IC's. Overall it looks pretty nice, you certainly did put in quite some time.

Thanks for your answer!!

1st I must say that I would have loved to play this with passengers with destinations, as it would have created an even bigger challenge. I love to keep things "natural" and that´s why I´m really looking forward for a final version of that patch. I think that in the beggining some IC services were far longer, but when trains got faster I just decided to duplicate the number of services instead of having long trains around. I think that some of the hubs could be better handled with the use of PBS, but I didn´t know about that when I began and so remained like that.

I was going to have a play around with it but I don't have winrar and would rather not download it on my new PC. Any chance of a zip?

Get 7-Zip. That will open rars for you.

There is always the tuning phase in any given game. :)
