merge companies in multiplayer?

Post by maxfaber »

hey boys,

is there a way to drop out of a multiplayer game so that another player can take over the company? lets say I don't want to play on and another player can take my stuff. should work, however taking over is limited to 75% for some reason. any way around it, as cheating is not implied?

thanks

It'd be nice if once you buy 75%, you can press a button, titled "Attempt Merger", which brings up a prompt for the other player. If the other player agrees, all assets are merged and both players can run one company.

Max, I'm afraid most of us completely ignore Rabbit, or we would have warned you that it was feeding you bum information some time ago.

There is no way to merge, except possibly with the now-rather-ancient subsidiaries patch.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

Is anyone working on this type of thing for the future? I personally would like to see it added, but make it more like the Railroad tycoon style of buying and selling company stocks... that is if it is possible.

I know I'm 12 years late, but I hope this can still help someone.
I've made a modified version of OpenTTD (with jgrpp 0.35.1!) that allows purchasing player owned companies.

If you want to compile the changes yourself, I've also included my modified files. (I literally just a commented out a few lines)

Hope you enjoy it!

You should talk to JGR about including this in his build directly. :)

If you're up for adding features, I think a patch which allows purchasing player-owned companies with the consent of everyone currently playing said company (if nobody is currently playing said company, the password could suffice) would be a valuable addition to trunk.
