[REL] Andysine's Southern England Scenario

Its finally here! I am pleased to relase version 1.0 of this HUGE map of southern England. The map is 2048*1024 and covers the area between Bristol, Weymouth, London and Dover.

The following major routes can be constructed in detail never before seen on a single map:
Bristol - Swindon - London
Bristol - Bath - Southampton
Bristol - Yeovil - Weymouth
Weymouth - Southampton - London
Southampton - Brighton (including Portsmouth branch)
Portsmouth - London
Many London surburban lines - so long as the level of detail allows
London - Brighton
London - Dover
Brighton - Dover
Ryde - Shanklin (IOW)

This is only version 1.0 at the moment, and I'll do my best to address any issues with new releases. There are very few industries in this release, you'll have to concentrate on passengers for the moment, but any suggestions for additional industries would be very much appreciated. You can of course add your own in the Scenario Editor, of course.

The Scenario File is located HERE
It is hosted at this site because the file is too big (6.08mb) to be hosted on tt-forums.net.

EDIT - Sept 2008: It was created on OTTD 0.4.8 and it works on early nightly builds (around r7321), but it is untested on newer versions so there may be compatability issues.

Some screenshots of the scenario:

An old screenie of London, since this was taken there have been a few changes, such as the addition of some extra roads.

NOTES AND TIPS for the Scenario:
1) It is surprisingly difficult to make money at the beginning of this scenario. Be very wary of starting with high cost routes such as Bristol - Bath. It is easiest to begin instead with suburban routes in and around London.
2) I have left space in many of the large towns to place the railway through them without destroying too many houses or trees. (e.g. On this map, in Southampton there space for you to build the tunnel under the city centre and a clear path for the railway up to Eastleigh). This will allow you to build realistic railways without constantly annoying the Local Authorities.
To take advantage of this you will have to either build these sections at the very beginning of the game or buy the land. Be warned, both of these will cost you money.
3) Name your company and specific stations (such as Bristol Temple Meads or London Victoria) at the VERY beginning of your game. With the large number of towns, the map is VERY close to the 'Max Number Of Named Items' limit. If you wait too long, you'll find the 'Too Many Named Items' message and you'll be stuck with 'Clapham Woods' instead of 'Clapham Junction' or 'Portsmouth' instead of 'Portsmouth Harbour'.
4) If you use the scenario straight off, without tweaking it in Scenario Editor to suit your style of play the game will begin in 1920.

it does work on my PC amazingly!

I am not sure how long it will though as i get bigger. My main suggestion would be to start it in 1927 because you can then build railways but it is slow.

Here's a couple of screen shots from my game. The savegame and config settings can be found Here.
I have concentrated mainly on the southwest, and have completed London - Bristol, London - Southampton - Weymouth and a couple of other routes. The only London route I have done is London - Reading. All of my London traffic goes through Reading.

This scenario looks SWEET. For two reasons -

1 - It's massive
2 - It's of a real place (I'm definitely putting my HQ on top of my real house)

Haven't found any others like it. Have found lots of real place maps, but they're all just too small for my tastes. Been trawling around the web looking for similar scenarios but without much luck. Anyone know of any massive real scenarios you could point me in the direction of?

Cheers
Mongrel

If anyone has this and could put it up for download anywhere (rapidshare?), I'd be happy too. I'll re-host it too, if I ever stop playing OpenTTD long enough to set up my server. :)
