After reading this thread and reading the site I'm getting the feeling that this is some kind of hoax. Common we expect nice graphics these days. I've seen screen shots from Trains and trucks tycoon I must say that it looks quite ugly. How does he want to make money from it?

It's rather old by now, obviously.
For it's time the graphics were okay.
I've not heard anything about the project's status in years. Can't say I care too much anyway :o

As you say it looked good for its time. Before I sold it, the curving method of track in the EA/Kuju Rail Simulator seemed uncannily similar to the tool in T&T Tycoon, as do the way rocks auto generate on any steep slopes in Rail Simulator...

Well, 3dtt was never really finished, neither the artwork. There was a lawsuit. The lastest news is actually that Peter Dobrovka don't work on it anymore...

-edit-
( The german forums can be still found under http://3dtt.novatek.de/ )

Then he should just release what he made for free.

Why "should" he? He could but there's no obligation.

Seriously: He can't release anything as the lawsuit is still going on (read the german forum on http://3dtt.novatek.de/forumdisplay.php?fid=3 for durther details - in the latest thread he writes that a new hearing has been on April 2nd) and, alas, a decision as to who is the Copyright Owner of TTT/SuS is still not made. In November, Peter announced that another expert has compared Trains & Trucks Tycoon (SuS) to 3dtt and has concluded that TTT/SuS was developed from 3dtt and hasn't been written from scratch as Peter's opponents have claimed (see Peter's long post in German (!) on http://3dtt.novatek.de/showthread.php?tid=170 ).
Besides, I think he is not really going to release anything for free because he already dedicated a great amount of his money (don't forget that one) and his lifetime (I deliberately put it this way... the lawsuit alone is going on for six years now - read page 1 of this thread - and before, he has worked on it for one year or so) to his work on 3dtt, so Peter probably won't release anything (either way).

Yea, if I lost that trial I would certainly have an unforseen "accident" where i mistakenly leaked the entire code to open source developer communitys.... :P ops...

This is strange. Very good find of you but it's out since 2006  . And by a Dutch publisher. Very strange but it looks like 3DTT a lot.

Well you can still read the forums: http://3dtt.novatek.de/

Peter told that somehow the files got deleted on 3dtt and he don't like to ask the admin currently...

yeah but after some testing the demo it isnt like loco or openTTD at all.

there is this main track where trains come in and leave, its basicly ur task to guide them. not build the track/stations etc.

Yah, its pretty different. Different graphics engine by the looks of it.

When will someone, anyone, release a TTD killer? Will it ever happen?

Well propably not, I guess. Games need to be for the broad public nowadays. So they can't make it too difficult and reallife looking, because a small public would buy it. You can see something simular with the new Simcity's in 3d.

But I really hope they make a new TT or Traffic Gaint. With full modification support, just like OTTD

OTTD has set the standards too high. Who can surpass it?

So am I but it's not a 3D Transport Tycoon clone. It's a Sim City clone. I'm moving this topic to the Off Topic section as right now everyone is going OT.

Good news, everyone!

Peter D. has won his lawsuit and UBI Soft and VX software (insolvent) are enjoined from publishing the game. The drawback is that this hardly affects Peter as he won't get any compensation (that's what he states on his forum on 3dtt.novatek.de). Right now he's looking for ideas on what to do with the game. So, if you speak German, you can check out his site and put in your twoppen'orth if you have some ideas.

That's good news on a legal note indeed. Still it's a tremendous pain that someone has to go through so many years of court hearings and trials for something so blatantly wrong. I'm sure he'll receive support whenever he decided to continu working on it.
