Backwards Compatibility?

Post by mr anderson »

May I say before I get onto my question: Best of luck to the TTS team!

Now then, my question is: Will TTS be able to load TTD savegames? This is not a suggestion, as I'm sure it would be loads of work if it had to be manually put in, but it would be kinda nice if it just did without any extra work.

I'm pretty sure you guys will say no, as I'm aware TTS is written entirely differently to TTD. But hey, it's worth a try :D

Well, of course it would be nice if it can be done. Note though that the structure of TTS will be entirely different from TTD, and thus converting between them may get quite hard.
But our original aim was to make it possible, so I guess we will do our best to get it in.

Well we have to find out how a savegame works

And either change TTU to fit that or
get TTU to be able to properly read the data

Or we can release a utility that converts the structure for TTU use

I found a utility ages ago that converts .sv0s and .sv1s into .big files, to allow for easier hexediting, although the most I managed to do with it is raise the topmost corner (Hmm, that border of water around the edge is actually TILES?)... if you find the source code for it somehow, you might be able to see how they work... I don't think I still have it though.

That would most likely be SV1Codec.
