How to change vehicles?

Post by hkuyeren »

Hi, it's maby a stupid question, but i don't know how i can change maximumspeed / capacity / vehicle life time? I use NewGF's. I think i change it once in notepad, but i can't find the file. I read something about NML, but i don't know where i can find that file. Where i can find that in the OpenTTD map? Or must i first install something?

NML COding isn't a part of OpenTTD it self. Like other programing languages you need to set up the tools needed to compile NML into GRF's for OPenTTD.

Honestly though I have no idea how you'd go about changing the default vehicles in game, though there is OpenGFX Trains and OpenGFX Road Vehicles that are both done in NML so you could edit those and compile your own modified GRF

Default vehicles are in a C++ table somewhere, but you'd need a C++ compiler and build your own OpenTTD version then.
Making a NewGRF with NML is an order of magnitude simpler, and will continue to work with other versions too.
Being a retired OpenTTD developer does not mean I know what I am doing.
