Just to say, thanks for running with the "Suburban" ideas I had.. I'm looking forward to populating my busy suburban stations with Fowler tanks and suburban rakes alongside Black Fives on Cross-Country runs!

Looking forward to seeing what's up and ahead.. Narrow Gauge sounds fun! I'm currently using the 600mm NG set, which isn't wrong for the South Coast where some railways did have French/German equipment, but having some 'proper' UK prototypes will be nice!

Also, cheekily, liking the idea of the DBSO that a few others have floated ;-)

All the best to everyone :-)

More pacers e.g. Class 142&144?

Maybe a class 374 for late game higher speed

The set is currently a bit heavy on post-1960s multiple units, for me the priorities are:

1. Get a decent narrow gauge roster with a representative set of engines.
2. Highlight weird and wonderful things, strange prototypes and ideas that never worked out.
3. Offer some alternative choices, e.g. shorter (but slower) late game bolsters, specialised wagons and the like.

I think RUKTS already fills the "every variant of every multiple unit that ever rolled out of York/Derby/etc." role very nicely, and Horse/UKRS do "logical and meaningful gameplay progression" better than I've ever been able to plan (depending on whether you prefer your prototypes inspired by or strictly from reality only). Which isn't to say I won't put a few in when the mood strikes, but I'm much more about the "ooh... if I drew that it could have this unexpected gameplay effect" options. For me, Timberwolf's Trains is settling into its own little ecological niche of absurdist kitchen-sinkism - a set where you build weird stuff and it causes weird gameplay effects, but not quite to the same abstract level as NUTS. It should be the Their Satanic Majesties Request of trainsets, even down to people arguing whether it was any good or in fact inconsistent and bloated nonsense whose ambitions far exceeded the capabilities of its creator(s) to realise them.

(Or, tl;dr the 4CC is still sitting there on my roster waiting to be turned into voxels once I've made some narrow gauge things)

Requests you say?

Parcels DMUs. A Class 128? Class 114 parcels unit? Something to do engineering supply/small mail trains with. Could just be a refit on the 121/101 respectively. I started playing with the voxels to bash a roller-shutter onto the 101 but I have not yet adapted my brain to MagicaVoxels' way of thinking.

Mk2 DBSO to be your retro-DVT. Quite iconic when combined with a 47 or 87.

Auto-refit support? Niche, I know.

One might propose that even one pacer is a pacer too many

Blackpool to Nottingham on a 142 once. Oof.
[/quote]

Huddersfield To Penistone (and back) on a 144 (3 car)
Same unit did it both ways :)

26 miles round trip

150 miles on a pacer out of Blackpool, with no trolley service and 1 toilet for everybody...gets old quick :)

Timberwolf: regarding the above, may I suggest a First Class refit for 142s, with trolley service. Preferably in GNER livery...

Two extremes of Collett-era GWR, narrow gauge vs. maximum loading gauge theory:

Image

(And yes, at first this sent me scurrying back to my table of measurements, and then to find photos of narrow gauge locomotives next to standard gauge ones. It is indeed quite that ridiculous.)

I guess it's time to share the joy of watching tiny trains carry tiny quantities of things. 1.0.2 is now available on everyone's favourite content repository, featuring two new gameplay developments:

Image

The first is narrow gauge. The roster is currently as diminutive as its subject matter, but there's still enough to send Fairlies scuttling across your map or put some prototypical Rustons in your industrial freight yards. Sadly passenger service is an uncomfortable afterthought, unless you happen to keep a few locomotives lurking in sheds for the purposes of nostalgia...

...in which case, enjoy the new feature of Preservation Railways. Take some narrow gauge coaches (or the specially marked mainline ones) and attach them to an old loco, the older the better. Passengers will happily pay for a day trip behind an engine more than half a century old, and if you can keep locomotives from the dawn of steam around until the modern age you'll notice nobody seems to care how long the journey took when you ask them to pay. Running preserved mainline locomotives is a fine balancing act between maintenance costs and profits, but you'll find the cheap and most importantly long-lived narrow gauge options an easy way to get your preserved railway going.

  • This is probably the first narrow-gauge railway in this graphic

Can this narrow train be used by U & ReRMM 2?

If the narrow gauge rails are marked as 'NGRL' (or compatible with it) then you can use the trains. I'm not averse to making the trains compatible with the narrow gauge labels from some other popular sets that don't have 'NGRL' if people let me know what the four-character labels are and agree to use it as an unsupported configuration, meaning that if your trains suddenly start running on canals or airport runways you're on your own :).

(For sets with multiple narrow gauge options, it'll need to be just one of the labels).

I should probably add the standardised `NAAN` to both Tracks and Trains in a future release, that at least covers track sets using the standardised scheme.

Time for another update! The Community Addon continues its path of highlighting the odd and the what could have been, with the following:

Image
  • SR 4DD
  • Brush "Falcon"
  • Brush "Kestrel"
  • BREL Mk2 DBSO
The DBSO also brings along some matching Mark 2F carriages to keep consists looking consistent.

Very nice work :D Looking forward to trying them out in my games!

Already enjoying the narrow-gauge pack, but I did have a few more ideas for flavour-
* One or two items from the Simplex catalogue, possibly the "Tin Turtles" and their siblings, followed by one of the large, later designs?
* 4-6-0 Baldwin, as these got around a bit after WW1 and are quite handsome beasts
* Some kind of 'Colonel Stephens' rail motor, possibly in passenger and freight forms? Not such a serious proposition, more fun ;-)
Example- This contraption on one of the Lincolnshire Potato Railways, made from a Ford Model T https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFi1Tv11WgA
Or the faux 'Galloping Goose' currently on the Statfold Railway!
* Observation Coach, as seen on the Ffestiniog and others later on.

---

Also, being really cheeky now considering the evident work already in this excellent set -
* Metropolitan Railway Metropolitan-Vickers Electric, possibly with companion EMU from the same company.
* Metropolitan Railway A or B class tank, for the Early Underground aficionados. Also quite long lived on the Brill Branch and Maintenance, with one even ending up in the West Country on a quarry railway, still in full Met livery!
(Suitable Mood Music for the previous two: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CidCX2gyJ9E)
* Early overhead EMU, like the Bury Electrics

----

Just a few thoughts to fill barely existing cracks in a fun set 👍

The 'Kestrel' is one of the prettiest locos out there, it wouldn't look out of place today.

I know you love filling weird niches, so how about the RTV-31 as monorail passenger shuttle? Might need an addition to Tracks too...
