[IDEA] Ro-ro ships

Post by alluke »

Yesterday I developed an idea of roll-on/roll-off ships for OTTD, which would consist of:

>Semitrucks that have their trailers coded as cargo (preferably with various liveries)
>A cargo ship with the same trailers visible on the deck

Additionally:

>Station tiles with parked trailers for when the ship's at sea
>Train flatcars with trailers as cargo (this is actually up to trainset authors)

The vehicles capacities should also be standardized to minimize loading time. Normal semitrailer can carry about 30 tons of cargo, so one ship could transport 20 trailers or 600 tons/crates.

What do you think? :)

Easily done with NewGRFs. We already have road vehicle sets with trucks which lose their trailers when all cargo is unloaded, and we have ship sets which display trailers as their cargo. Just requires somebody to create the complementary sets so that the liveries match.
