Now that you fellas have paid your 2 cents worth, I should be able to pay some bills now. 2 cents worth is better then no sense.
andythenorth wrote:I like building sprites that fit on a single tile. Then mixing them up to make it look interesting. My $0.02 AUD.
I like that way to as allows people to make them to how they want.

The Mine Shaft Tower piece is 4 tiles. I could shorten that to 3 tiles.

The Pyrite Mine has a lot of greys in it but stands out nice and clear. See if I can pinch some of those ideas.
Quast65 wrote:The difficulty I personally have is that I like all of those...
I like the 2-track shed, I also like the 1 track sheds...
I like the rusted roofs, I also like "new" roofs idea...
I like the slanted front, I also like the straight front...

So, I wont be usefull there I would even dare to say, do them all!!
Not be 2 hard to have noth single and double track sheds.
If I make a set with the new roof first, it easy to add rust or change colours later so probably could do both.
Making coal loading section it sections a person be able to choose what front they like.
Quast65 wrote:You are drawing in 32bpp, right? (doublecheck if your drawingboard is not accidently using the DOS or Windows palettes anymore), so you have loads of options regarding slightly different hue's, tints and tones of the colors, making it just that bit different
Glad you mentioned this .. I have been drawing in Dos or Windows Palettes 8 bit colours. I will start a new lot and make sure it 32 bit. This should give me more options  .

Just an idea .. the ground tiles under the loaders and buildings I been using crushed ballast affect.

But when looking at other photos of this mine and others, tracks where laid straight on the dirt .. don't see crushed ballast on many of them.

So see how they look with dirt under them wish a few pieces of coal here and there.

A little extra coal around the mine shaft and the loaders.

Whatcha reckon :?:

Glad you mentioned this .. I have been drawing in Dos or Windows Palettes 8 bit colours. I will start a new lot and make sure it 32 bit. This should give me more options
O really?! In that case I have even more awe for your texturing!

Only the 8bpp file with the empty blue boxes has to be paletted (all those 8bpp templates I gave you should already be paletted, the 32bpp ones should be unpaletted).
Looking forward to what you will now come up with!! :D
So see how they look with dirt under them wish a few pieces of coal here and there.

That really works! The poles look much better against that background.

Something that may be interesting to try out:
Make those groundtiles slightly transparent, that way the textures of the grass basetiles will poke through a bit. Maybe that makes the dirt a bit less pronounced and blend in a bit with the regular grass surrounding it...
Just an idea to try out, havent done that myself yet, may not work at all, but worth a try...

I'll give that a try when I get back from town and see how it looks.

I think I make a full set with the clean roofs as it does look good, and when finish it make a second set with rusty roofs.

Here's a question for AndytheNorth ..

If I make a Industry set with these old coal mines, how easy would it be to code them so when they first built at beginning of game to later on the roof goes rusty :?: :P

In the graphics switches:
- build_date is an industry property https://newgrf-specs.tt-wiki.net/wiki/N ... properties
- current_date is a general variable https://newgrf-specs.tt-wiki.net/wiki/NML:General
- do something like (current_date - build_date)
- then if the result is more than 20 (for example) switch to rusty graphics, otherwise show clean

FIRS already has support for dates (e.g. Machine Shop shows steam or diesel tractors), but it works just on current_date, doesn't care about build_date.

Also not sure if the date checks are in the FIRS code you pinched or not :D

I truly got my 2 bobs worth out of your firs 1.4.3 .. haven't checked your later ones yet.

I was thinking where the Flour Mill changes during game might be the codes I looking for .. will look into this when I ready to do the Industry set.

I try get these Coal Loaders finished next few days.

Then I better get back to school .. my teacher (Quast65) has lots of lessons for me to learn.

There may be just one catch... The industry part may change to rusted roof in time, but the station part wont....
It could, by using an extremely slow animation, but I dont think it can be aware of the age of the industry-part...
Except maybe if it is possible to start the aging of the industry when it is first visited by a vehicle and then that also triggers the animation of the station, however also that trigger may not be at the same time (for example when you first only have a roadconnection to the mine and later add a station).

That clean roof looks great by the way!

This where I am up to with the Coal Stage.

The Mine Shaft Tower section is now 3 tiles long and not 4. Intend to make these to face all 4 directions so they be ready to make a Industry with them later on.

The extension buildings for the Mine Shaft have made them so can be used with the Mine Shaft or without.

They can be made as long and as wide as you like.

Very nice job!
This looks bit modern. I have thought and actually try to make an old dirty (grey, black and brown) wooden shed some time back. Basically something for steam era. I dint get too far with it tough

I like the rusted version much better. The clean roofs just are too clean to me. They'll never stay that way right next to a coal mine (or anywhere, really), because who'd care enough to clean them? ^^

But either way this is still pretty great stuff ;) I really like your stations so far, both passengers and industry.

Thanks ISA and Pyoro for your comments.

I been idle with these for a few days as pondering how to make them look old but not to old.

Been looking through Andythenorths FIRS graphics see if I can pinch some roofing iron off any of his buildings. :D

I'll probably do both versions, but see what other ideas I come up with first.

Looking at them next to each other I'm again reminded about the usually kinda inconsistent "where does the sun come from?" question. Because the dark side is on opposite sides with that roof, which doesn't make much sense ^^;
