This is so cool, ever since I started adding grf's I've always looked for some sort of parking objects or buildings and finally someone made it and did an amazing job! Great job!

Thanks all those who like what we are making.

There are other Car Park sets out there, but we looking at making them a bit more prettier.

I think I have made all the pieces I need to start coding them into a object set.

This roughly what you can make.
Glendale Car Parks-8.png
Glendale Car Parks-8.png (17.42 KiB) Viewed 2461 times
All the tiles will be single tiles and you can put them how you like.

Tried to make a Shopping Trolley Return bay but not easy to see. Tied white and greys but they blend in with the road and white line markings. So trying a green to match the pedestrian undercover walk ways.

The tiles where the buses are .. you be able to make a choice .. put the object buses there or put a actual road there with bus stops and have your buses stop there.

The lighting is very bright so no need them too close together .. can space them out.

Will make these a separate object GRF file to start with just empty car parks so easier to test it for awhile and see if any thing else can be added.

Then will add vehicles and people and other eye candy.

Once the object set is finished and working properly, hope to make a cargo aware station set to match these.

Hi guys,

Well I made a Test Parking Lot as Objects so we can try and see if need add anything else.
Test Parking Objects.png

Since making this image I got ideas for some other pieces which are these.
Extra Pieces-7.png
Extra Pieces-7.png (9.3 KiB) Viewed 2363 times
I recoloured some of PolRoad buses to the colours that I catch here. The Yellow on is the one I get from home to the Shopping Centre and if want to go further have to change to either another yellow bus or a blue.

Hope you guys can test these for me see if any other pieces like to add.

One thing I have discovered with all the object sets I have made players seem to find other uses for what I originally planned them for.

So hope you guys can help test these to see if any other pieces like to add.

I'd like to see one similar to the grass medians, but with concrete sidewalks instead, and maybe a smaller grass/tree/flower median.

Also noticed a lack of handicap-accessible parking. ;)

Looking at your idea as well as it be suitable for industrial car parks.

Also paving along the grass should look good to with some flowers as well.

I not good at drawing trees so see if I can get some from other sources that are smaller.
kamnet wrote:Also noticed a lack of handicap-accessible parking.
They meant to be next to the under cover walk ways and forgot to put to make them.

The should have been the brownish same as the pedestrian crossings.

Looking at adding to the under cover walk way by adding some T and X Sections.

Anyone like to have a look at the source files .. it includes a template with all the individual pieces.

Keep the ideas coming.

Nice work , trees and shrubs are most important .Up here in the Granite City we have new business / retail / light industrial centers that must have greenery incorporated into their designs . Disable / mother and child parking is always as close to the entrance of the building , In quite a few places a color that stands out of paved construction is used .I'm not sure if you thought about carports , the Emirates have some nice designs .

The parking is strange at some shopping centres especially where I go. If aged, pensioner or on a disability there are special car parking lots close to the shops.

But when age and our disability prevents us from driving and have to come by bus, the parking is the furthest from shops.

I'll add some colour stands to some of the parking lots to represent special parking.

I can add a "introduction_date:" to these for a bit of fun.

Probably be a idea if I make a old style with just parking and simple entry/exits and maybe a few lights and introduce these early 1900s.

The ones I done so far maybe introduces these in the 1960s.

Big problem with what I done so far is hard to find the pieces so seeing if I can put them in a better order.

I found some flowers growing in FIRS 1.4.3 so see if I can get some seedlings from them and make some gardens on some of the grass areas.

Solar Carports , nice green idea , Park and Charge . In the last post forgot to mention ,a common feature in the Industrial / Business centers is a Park and Ride , park up your car and catch the bus to town , saves a lot of money on them parking meters and the hassle of finding a spot to park .

Been looking at the coding that Pyoro used for his Parking Set .. not sure if can use it for my lot as so many pieces and still adding.

But what he did might be great to include with these and that can be the older style set. Maybe just add a some pieces like Kamnet mention last year.

The only under cover parking I see at shopping centres are at multi-story car parks which is something I hope to eventually try to make.

I am not sure if you should paint the concrete brown, I think thats a feature that may only be found at that specific carpark in Glendale (as part of the design of that carpark).
I think it is more common to use a little blue sign or paint a little blue logo on the concrete or paint the lines that show the parkingspot blue (I think the sign is the easiest to do).

By the way, for electric vehicles, green could be used (sign/logo/lines)

I seen some disable parkings like you mentioned. also the parking is widen then others, so instead of 4 parking spaces I have in the tiles I'll decrease that to 3.

Next 2 days if weather permits I be shopping, attending medical appointments and hope to go train riding, could be Friday before do any more.

But if weather bad, then I stay home and do more to the parkings.

That a possibility too .. just make it a small one and players can make it bigger with the object pieces and/or the Station set I make with it.

If it going to produce and accept passengers, maybe the bus shelters could be the start of it.

You could adapt or work with Emperor Jake's Housing as Industry to provide that functionality.

An important feature of the handicap spaces isn't just the space itself marked off, but space around it as well in order to accommodate various equipment like walkers, wheelchairs, motorized chairs, ramps, lifts, etc. I've included a composite picture of what this typically looks like in the US. The buffer areas marked in blue are reserved for handicap-accessible parking. Also includes some yellow-striped buffer areas meant to indicate crosswalks and areas not to park. In particular, the striped-off area on the left edge of the photo is right next to a drive path. Often in parking spaces there will be a curb, but in these there are no curbs, vehicles can drive straight through the spaces.

Here's also another style of handicap parking, with one spot rotated across 3+ spaces, meant to accommodate longer vehicles such as transportation vans and minibuses.

Ok .. At moment they all 1800. Shall I make that earlier still.

His set was the first industry set that I practiced with for making Industries.

An idea Quast65 gave me some time ago about making a Industry set with the Industry just being a 1x1 tile and than players build the rest using object and station pieces, so the idea of a Parking lot be ideal.
Disable Parking
With all the different disabled parking I think something like this image be sufficient.

They could be shaded spaces. I seen different types .. like in Kamnets photos, white lines, or just a simple sign that some people couldn't read.

Shall se what I can come up with.

Cheers

Hope this be suitable for blind drivers too as seem to have some of them around these days.

They have a habit of not stopping at red lights and stop signs. They don't seem to be able to find the blinker switch to indicate which was they going, and when they do they often indicate the wrong direction which they turn, just to name a few prblems with them. :D

Close...
Couple of remarks:
- Be careful with what blue you choose, you have used blue that is used for company colors, no issue for objects, but it will be for stationtiles ;-)
- The yellow lines are straight (parallel to the white line in the middle), they should be diagonal
- The logo painted on the concrete has a diamond shape, it should be square.

This is what I came up with (would love to have the logo a bit smaller, but that is almost not possible to do without it losing its shape in this small scale):

[offtopic] Something that hugely annoys me are the automatic lights that some modern cars now have. Those turn on when it gets darker (for example when it starts to rain or when you enter a tunnel), but only the parkinglights on the front and nothing at the back.
But also the instrumentlights on the dashboard turn on then, so some idiots think that they have turned on their lights at night, when actually nothing is on...
So happy that I drive a 27 year old car, that does not have those modern "improvements" [/offtopic]
