The AuzOverlapTest source is something worth keeping copy of for future coding of overlaps.

This morning couldn't seem to get it right so made the smaller test versions to experiment with and by lunch time ran out of ideas .. the more I tried the worse tangle of park lands I got .. so let my kids have a turn while I lay down for a while .. marvelous sometimes when you walk away from a problem the answer often comes to you. So while it fresh in my mind, I kicked the kids off and fixed it.

I also did the car parks with 3 overlaps and all the shops and buildings. The shorter car parks I used a different template back in 2018 so got some adjustments to do for those.

Here the game file for AuzCarParksandSubwayOverlaps. If any one wants the source let me know.

Cheers

Hi all,

While working on the coding for overlaps decided to see if I can make some airport subway overlaps so you can have trains under the airport.

These objects are from Quast65's "Fake Airport Objects"

These large building over lap 1 tile so place a piece both sides of the tracks.

I put them in AuzCarParkAddOns.

They have been places in "AuzCarParkAddOns"

Any buildings that are in Quast65s object set you like to see also as subway overlaps .. please let me know.

Enjoy

This is fantastic Gary. I've always wanted to ask for more subway overlaps, as I use them A LOT for hiding metros in the city! Particulary more that could match with the Japanese modular stations or grass/concrete without any fences to work with AuzObjects Parks/CityObjects. Or perhaps grass without fences but with trees to create a inner-city park hiding a metro tunnel exit and any junctions underground? These are a good start though! I'll have to get the update and see the full range. ;)

Glad you like .. people have asked me before but always busy with other projects. Technically I still em, but willing to set aside a few days during the week to make some more subway pieces.

Hard to believe I first started doing some overlaps back in September 2016. The parks with the brick fences was in April 2018. All when I was still learning (and I still learning .. guess I always be learning).

I now wonder if the the overlap objects that overlaps 3 tiles is worth the effort as they glitch badly and not much can be done about it. Maybe I should remove them and make room for more 1 and 2 tile overlaps.

I think players can use the shorter ones effectively by placing them on both slopes and reduce the glitching by just using those that overlap just 1 or 2 tiles.

In this image:
Subway Overlaps 02.png
Subway Overlaps 02.png (130.67 KiB) Viewed 3220 times
1 main tile goes on north slope and it overlaps 3 tiles to the south and glitches badly with the 4th tile and sometimes with the 3rd tile.

2 main tile goes on south slope .. it don't glitch as bad as no.1 but still glitches a little with the 4th tile.

3 and 4 are No.1 and 2 used together and no glitching as they overlap each other.

But I feel all object overlaps I did with 3 overlaps could be removed from the set. (Unless you use them to cross 4 tracks).

5, 6, and 7 main tile is on south slope and overlap 2 tiles .. these have very little glitching.

8, 9, and 10 main tile on north slope and the overlaps extend to the south. The far overlap will glitch. A problem you have to put up with.

11, 12, 13 and 14 .. are all overlap just 1 tile and work really well. 13 and 14 might glitch a little sometimes.

So if no one has any objections .. I will not make any more that overlap 3 tiles. Maybe if no one has used any of the 3 tile overlaps .. these could be removed .. whatcha think? :?:

I hope to add some parks and gardens from the AuzTownObjects but I running out of room in the AuzCarParksandSubwayOverlap set. Just 18 IDs left.

SO I wonder if the Subway objects should be a separate set. What I have in AuzCarParksandSubwayOverlap leave them there for now so not to break any games players have going. Make a new object set .. probably call it "AusSubwayOvelapObject" set with those in AuzCarParksandSubwayOverlap plus add as much as I can from the parks and gardens. But new set maybe don't add any that over lap 3 spaces.

Next few days I will work on other projects to give players time to answer what I written above. Hope later in week work on the subway overlaps again and have some ready for next weekend.

Cheers all

EDIT: I forgot I have the AusCarParkAddOns .. so if need future subway overlaps could go in that set. Might not need AusSubwayOvelapObject

Whilst they are glitchy, I sometimes have a use for these longer ones. I would say that the variety for the longer ones doesn't need to be as big - I would maybe to a grass one without the fences and a concrete type one maybe. I'll post some examples of what types of gaps I am filling with the overlays so you get a rough idea.

Here a 3-long is useful, for making some kind of metro interchange. Here you can see actually there aren't enough overlaps so I will probably have to hide it with a skyscraper.

Perhaps though, solving that by having some universal underground railtype would be better...anyway!

I agree with this and would like to add that you dont always have 2 sides with empty slopes to put the overlapping objects on.
So, in some cases, you can only do the overlap from one side and then a longer one may be handy.
indeed, they dont need to have as many graphical versions as the shorter ones.

No problem .. will leave them in and make some with out the fence. Let us know of any other combinations. Or maybe as I make the 1 and 2 overlaps and you like a 3 lap version let me know.

I see in menu they very confusing so should I separate them and have 3 menus .. 1 tile overlap, 2 tile overlaps, and 3 tile overlaps?

Might be a idea in some cases too .. but being buildings I think best if placed in AuzTownObjects or in your own sets. Several sky scrappers side be side would hide heaps.

The Park Single Tile? is those 3 single tiles in case the overlap not reach properly the other side and a single tile might be of use. Not sure if really need them, but sounded like a good idea when I first made them.

Cheers

Forgot to ask .. Will I make a complete new object set just for subway overlaps? or do I just continue with them in AuzCarParkAddOns?

I only fill them if I don't get side tracked into other projects :D I started AuzCarParksAndSubwayOverlays back in 2016 and never thought I would fill it and need start another set.

I will copy all overlaps from the "AuzCarParksAndSubwayOverlays" into the new object set (which I doing now). Will also copy the Airport Overlaps from "AuzCarParkAddOns" into this set. Will leave them in those 2 sets so not destroy games players already have in motion now. Just that players will have 2 copies of some objects.

Once I finish that copying I will see what over overlaps I can make. Most will be from AuzTownObjects and Fake Airport Objects.

See if can get the copying finished tonight .. I got 1 hour of time left before have to let my kids have the computer  .

AuzSubwayOverlayObjects

Started a new object set called AuzSubwayOverlayObjects.

This set has the Houses, Dutch Roads and the Park Overlaps from AuzCarParksAndSubwayOverlays and it also has the Airport Subways from AuzCarParkAddOns.

Problem is AuzCarParksAndSubwayOverlays almost full and the Subway Overlays yet to be made just be no room for them . Hence the reason I making this new set. I will leave those Subway Overlap Objects in those 2 sets so it will not crash any game you have going.

In this new set so far there are what shown in this menu.

Changelog:

* Object Select Menu change to as shown above so easier to find what length overlap you would like.
* The pathways are now the same as cement ones in AuzTownObjects so hope the can be used together.
* added:
Pathways with seats and lighting
Pathways with phone booths
grass overlaps with no fences
Pathways with no fences
Subway stairs

Here the game file of the new Object set.

The Dutch Road Furniture has had me wondering if we don't need the parallel roads to be so far apart but instead let them be side by side and still have objects in the middle of the 2 roads.

So I experimented with island car parking and trees and came up with these.
Trees in streets 05.png

Using this concept.
The Yellow square is the main tile .. and the rest are overlaps.
Center Parking 03.png
The template has them like this.
testroadoverlaps_32.png
* The template on left .. yellow main tile and red where cars park or other object.
* The grey square where a try can go or other object .. Not suitable for a ground tile as it will glitch and vehicle pass under it.
* On right Yellow main tile and the joining darker yellow is car parking and or other object.
* The dark yellow and green where a ground piece can go and the cars. Not suitable for any high object in these as they will glitch.

If your interested in making something your self with my idea let me know and I send you the source to the template and coding.

Hope upload game file with these in the next day or 2. Cheers
Not sure if I have the latest version, but are these parking lots included in?

They are in the AuzCarParkAddOns. Which reminds me I still got some parking to finish. Hope do them eventually.

Glad you like .. just wondering those images fridaemon showing above .. how something likes those would also look as subway overlaps .. fake roads with cars and trees. Cars probably have to park parallel. Had a fiddle earlier with the big trees each side of pathways. Not sure how they go with the overhanging branches when another overlap is placed beside them but think it worth trying.

The idea of the jacaranda trees works good.

Had to have all tree look the same so that if you over lap a overlap they align properly as can be seen where they cross 4 tracks .. it has a 3 overlap tiles from each slope so that middle 2 tiles overlap and stop the glitching.

If you like I do some with the brick fence at each end.

Wonder if maybe do some more tree lined with some of the trees from VAST or maybe you have another idea?

See what else I can add in coming days .. but I not update the game file again till Friday.

Enjoy

The car parks that stretch across 4 tracks are those with 3 overlaps from each slops and they overlap 2 tiles in the middle.
