Seeing if I can freeze some water and maybe start a new object set ICE :)

Would these pass in game for a frozen lake and creeks?

Some of you who have a better co-ordination of colours and lived among the snow and iced lakes and rivers might see some changes could be made or would this be ok?

Great idea!

As far as I can tell, yes indeed. Although you seldom find square lakes :)

I tried your idea with the reef tiles, and it looks very good both in winter:

And in summer:

It looks a lot more natural than the forest-clad hills of the OpenGFX+ landscape. An added bonus is that one can avoid factories situated on snowy mountains, like this:

Thank you kindly 'leifbk' for that report.

I shall do some more rocks in the snow including slope aware types and more iced over water tiles and have them available for you and others soon as I can to have a look at.

Here's Auz_Landscape_Objects and Auz_Water_Objects .. made several changes in them with the landscaping. Started to add some snow.

Some of the water tiles and creek are iced over. Started doing the Culverts, but only a few done so far.

Some of the Slope Aware Rocks in Rocky Terrain and Embankments have snow in the crevasses.

New section added to Landscape Objects called Landscape Terrain .. here you will find slope aware tiles for Sub-Arctic and Sub-Tropical .. for those who are building or playing the Temperate Styles and would like some snow in those high mountains or dry desert looks in the country.

Much credit and thanks goes to those who made OPENGFX + Landscape .. the snow and ice designed from that set and the Landscape Terrain also made from that set.

Not sure if I doing these dams right for the snow and ice .. I presume water will still be flowing under the ice and where it comes out of the dam I imagine would be ice again a short distance away.

A simular thing probably happen when water flowing at a faster pace down a hill .. be ice at top and more at bottom, but water flow in between.

I would quite like to see the ice a little bit whiter. It should be rather close to the snow in colour, perhaps a bit more blue just to distinguish it in-game. In reality, during proper winters you won't see the difference of a lake or the ground other than the flatness of the lake. Or if it's been cleared of snow, of course. In which case it should be a bit darker than your attempt....

Huh, all in all perhaps it's fine :P

I thought about what you saying .. the ice is also usually covered in snow and not tell one from the other, but for game play I wanted to be able see it still .. guess you can say it the start of winter. Lakes and rivers iced over but snow hasn't fallen on them since they froze.

Does that make sence :)

Here's Auz_Water_Objects Version 3.
Auz_Water_Objects.rar
(442.19 KiB) Downloaded 73 times
I added snow and ice to all the water ways that I could find and not the ones I not find. I'll do them when I find them.

Can now go Ice skating .. could go figure skating too .. I could do the one they call Ass over tit.

Could have done the ice same colour as snow, but thought it look better if you can find the lakes and water ways in the snow otherwise it be like trying to find a polar bear in a snow storm.

Nice :)

I agree that the ice looks better in a light blue. Wrt finding a polar bear in a snow storm, you'll better be sure he doesn't find you first.

Ice is tricky, since it depends on the terrain, not to mention if its a river vs a lake. An icy river, depending on the grade, could have small open water areas, especially in fast moving areas. Lakes and ponds are typically covered in snow... unless there's wind. Then you can get some really dark ice, depending on the depth.

Where I grew up in Minnesota (north central US on the plains, known as the land of 10,000 lakes) ice fishing is almost a religion.
I grew up near Lake Mille Lacs, which is shallow at only 12 meters at its deepest point, and is around 25km across. The ice stays relatively light colored and gets thick enough for trucks to drive across.

Getting the Ice colour rights not easy .. I could just make it all snow then we not find anything we place in game .. put it would save a lot of work .. just need one set of slope aware snow tiles and they can be come anything the player wants. Every thing be white.

So making ice slightly different so can see where it is is my main objective. Same with objects, roads, and other things hope to make them snow looking but also able to find them reasonably easy.

I've only ever touch snow once in my life and I now 61. Australia does get snow in some places, but didn't snow places I lived, at least not when I was there.

I noticed after I added version 3 above, that I missed 2 water tiles I forgot to do. Might be others so will check them again before I re-release it.

Personally in game terms I wouldn't go overboard. Having a relatively uniform light blue like you started with for a game like this gets the idea across nicely. I just like showing off pictures of my old home ;)

Having a couple winter sports would be cool though. Generally with ice skating it might just be a couple benches near the shore, maybe a warming hut or a place selling hot liquids. For pond hockey, its just a couple nets.

By the way, thank you for making so much of your stuff snow aware despite your being in the land of warm weather and scary spiders :)

Not many dangerous spiders here .. and they not harm you if you no harm them. They just feel creepy when crawl on you.

See if can get more of the object things and AuzInd160 set with a bit more snow .. when that done see what other things can be added.

Main objective at moment is designing some bridges ..

Hi Garry,

May I just shae one idea... Would it be possible to add in the set some Nuclear Power Part Infrastructure objects. For example: cooling towers, reactor building etc. I share here some photos... http://c7.alamy.com/comp/FK8HJ8/nuclear ... FK8HJ8.jpg

Adding them wouldn't be to hard to do .. drawing them would be the problem.

When I finish with the work doinging with wallyweb on bridges see what can do. Even if I just add each building with the power plant I have in AuzInd160 as separate pieces.

Been experimenting with objects above the rails and roads.

Had a try at a carpark first too see if might be ok.
