Great job. I've always wanted that in OpenTTD there were power lines. Now I can build power lines in the game. Thank you very much, GarryG :)) .

I hope that in the future you will please us with new types of roads  .

I'm afraid that is beyond my knowledge in coding. Best can offer is what called Overlap roads.

Glad you enjoy the power lines.

Something I might mention to all .. when I did the first power lines with the 4 wires it was intended to be communication lines :) Hence the brown coloured poles. I wanted them to be in conjunction with WIRED. But I made them a bit too tall for that idea. The reason for the brown poles is the railways usually used old railway lines for the posts.

Do people want the wooden electricity poles left the colour I have them or should I try a greyish dried wood as many of them seem to be in real?

I intend to make lower set of communication poles in the near future.

How's this look for a sub-station for now?

Been looking at the photos supermop sent me .. I might be able to run between the stanchions wires and pipes like in the pics. Take a bit of practice, trials and errors, but will have a go at it in a day or two.

When you build the transformers the space either end are overlap tiles so can put anything there.

Experimented this afternoon on running the high voltage wires across water .. can get them right one side the lake, but when reach far side they always lower. That's with the wires running level with out any sags. Must be I forgot to allow for the curvature of the earth :)

This is where I am up to at the moment with the High Towers and substations.
I think I will make all the gantry work the same height.
Anyone want to play around with what I done so far as I going to have a break for a few hours or more.
You can make the Towers any distance apart you like, but only on level ground for now.
The gantry may be too high to give it a realistic feel to me (Havent seen substations, so maybe they exist like that in real life).
Maybe its an option to draw high voltage towers with lines coming down that then connect to the lower substations. I think that would look better.

And, again, great work, those high voltage towers with lines look great!

There is a sub-station near me and when I looked at it yesterday .. it has the tall towers coming in from one side and where it enters the compound the infrastructure is just as tall. The other power poles I made with 3 wires go out the compound the other side and these run to another town to a smaller sub-station where the other wires start from to go to the house and businesses.

Supermop should be able to enlighten us on this .. it seems that there are 3 stages for the power to reach homes. The Power Station, it feeds several large Sub-Station, then these feed many smaller sub-stations thence to homes etc.

I so interested in doing these electricity things, I forgot to back up my work last night so all the changes to the graphics have over written what I had yesterday .. The smaller sub-stations I lost .. be good have both the long and the short and the tall, so can build what ever design liked most.

I'll attach a copy of the work I done to date so everyone can test and experiment with it and let me know what they think of the taller sub-stations.

Going through this thread there's really a lot of cool stuff happening. Also those electric pylons remind me of Factorio.

Does this interest any of you .. have the overhead wires going over large areas of water?

If you got good eye sight you might see some black dots along the wires .. ignore those for now .. I put a flashing pixel on the end of the wires to make sure they line up properly .. when I got it right I'll remove the pixel.

Double check and make sure that ships can pass under them! ;)
No problem if the ship has a good captain that knows how to navigate.

When you build the wires across water ..they in lengths of 3 .. only the middle part ship not Passover, but will pass ok either side.

I noticed in real where wires go over water there are yellow balls along the wire so sailing ships not foul there mast on and low flying planes can see easy over the water. Maybe I could do simular.

Been experimenting with the High Towers and going up hills. Because the towers can be placed further apart, designing wires to cope with all the different hill climbs .. it almost impossible to make.

Doing continuous slopes can be achieved with a Tower at the top and the other one space out from the bottom and no towers directly on the slopes.

But going up and down hills where the slopes are not continuous but in steps of different distance apart is creating a challenge. How will I achieve this .. your guess is as good as mine at the moment.

Those who have tested the High Towers for me .. what is your normal distance between the towers? I thing 8 or 11 spaces between towers look ok.

Been pondering over the sub-stations and what to do with them. The photos that supermop sent me and one I took myself of the local sub near here makes me want to change some things, but not be real easy.
Local Sub-Station.png
Local Sub-Station.png (288.6 KiB) Viewed 1226 times
This pic is of the local one near my place. The first 2 sets of stanchions have 8 wires all coming from one High Tower and to the far left is another set from another high tower.
The tall tower you can see has radio aerials and communication discs on it.

The wires spread out over a distance, so not sure how or if I can do that yet. .. if I figure out a way to do it I will. Lucky I only have 6 wires to contend with.
I know I not get it exactly like these pics, but be interesting if can get something like it.

The stanchions I made I think they can be lowed a little .. any way .. I see what can be done.

I putting the hills on hold for a while until a better idea comes to me. The Swiss Ski Lifts give some ideas. We shall see.

Those high-vis balls are indeed a brilliant idea!!!

Allthough, they look a little bit too big in my opinion, also some colors are from the fire-cycle (so they flash). I have drawn a smaller ball (with non-flashing colors), maybe you could try that out:
Auz24.png
Auz24.png (5.08 KiB) Viewed 1216 times
I also think they would be good for the tiles on land (that are just wire, without the towers), but maybe then in a darker grey or darkred/crimson. Also to mark where the tile is and to make it more interesting visually.

Also I noticed a connection error with the three-wire lines:
Auz25.png
Auz25.png (70.97 KiB) Viewed 1216 times
And... (you are gonna hate me for requesting this) I do think that the 6-wire lines should also have a curve in them, like the 3-wire lines. Only straight lines doesnt look natural to me... Sorry for mentioning this ;-)

When I first done those I got the ball from the internet and shrunk it down .. when tested all the colours flashed and I thought I got them all.

The one you have mark to be placed on the wire .. see if I can add that one.

I seen the balls for over land and they have red and yellow colours. if every one else if happy with your idea can put red and yellow balls over the land for the high towers.
Also I noticed a connection error with the three-wire lines:
Thanks for finding these easy for me to miss.

I will hate you for that in a friendly way :) Not sure how to do this unless I make lots of wires at different levels. Also depends on what distance every one normall space the poles apart?

I might have to transfer the Overhead electrical wires and sub-stations over to the Auz_Roadside_Objects as running out of room where it is at moment and I still got some thing to add that are railway objects such as more stations etc. See what happens in a few days or so.
