Thanks all for your compliments .. after I finish the bridges looks like I have another project to do .. the idea of the wharf has opened other ideas.

I think I be going back to objects to see if can make some wharves like these as objects and put a few ships along side them.

Found some planking ..
That looks very good!
The only comment I could have is about the "waves" around the pillars. Havent seen it ingame offcourse, so it may be allright, but by just looking at the screenshot I think it is just a bit too much.
They seem to form a complete line, which gives an effect of the water under the structure being cut-off from the surrounding water, it kinda looks more like a wave hitting a beach than a narrow pillar. And that way the structure doesnt look like being part of the water. Maybe lose a couple of pixels and just have a few around/next to the pillars, so that there is a bit of room between the pillar waves. This may give a more gentle effect of water hitting the pillars.
I think at least double rows should be avoided, like these:
Example143.png
Example143.png (277.27 KiB) Viewed 2438 times
Also using more different colors from the watercycle can give a nicer effect, kind of like a wave/swell passing by the pillars.
Take a close look at some of the objects in ISR/DWE or Marico:
Example144.png
Example144.png (27.93 KiB) Viewed 2438 times
Those may give you some ideas that may be worth trying out.

Thanks Quast65 for those ideas with the water. Will give it a try ..

Been fiddling with cargo on the wharf .. each tile has something on it so makes all look clustered. Thinking of removing a crane from one of them and either leave the area clear .. or just a few items.

Back soon ,, I go try your waves idea.

Cheers

I'm not sure the design makes all that much sense, realistically (I mean you unload stuff and then you're blocked by those warehouses from getting it off? The front one should probably have its big door on the right ;) ) but it looks really nice.

The buildings are original from Trading Post .. been wondering on a few ideas what to do with them .. should I keep them as is, make them smaller, remove them completely or move them to a tile on shore .. have some warehouses on shore instead. Wharves probably look better if only had lose cargo on them and the crane.

Will sleep on it and see what the weekend brings.

The water looks better to me, cant test it out as my (older)version of the game isnt compatible.

Regarding the buildings, maybe move the forward one more to the back so it connects with the other one, making one large long building, then also add a big door on the right. That may work better visually/logically.

EDIT:
Also noticed something else, the edge/rim under the planking is dark textured on the sunny side and light textured on the shaded side. Should be the other way around ;-)

Brilliant!

But now the problem is the actual docks you build for ships to load/unload won't match the nice wooden plank look...

Makes me wonder how oil rigs are coded. They have an internal dock, after all. Would be nice if that was available for all industries. I could also imagine some others with an internal helipad or something.

Got some experimenting to do .. the setting up of the sprites to Industries that use slope land and water is new to me .. the setting I using are pre-coded for the Trading Post.

I looked through it and at moment it very confusing how to change the settings.

But hope over the next few days or so I will figure it out.

That will be a problem .. going to see if I can make some object wharf that might overlap the load/unload docks to hide them.

There is a special tile used in the tilelayout block to make a (water) station. This post might be helpful:

That might be interesting if can do same to Wharf. But before I look to far let me understand the layout of the water based sprites being used at the moment in the Trading Post as it all new to me to.

Once I work these out .. might be easier to learn how to add the internal dock if it is possible.

When I get chance like to try and change the shape of the wharves. Rather then the T and L shapes see if can get them to run parallel with the shore .. or go straight out from the shore.

Looking great Garry! If you're going for the older style, how about changing the crane to something less modern? Currently looks slightly out of place. Something like this or this perhaps?

Like to try do something like this . I like the 2nd crane .. it a lot like cranes used in railway yards too. If I can design something like that it would be well used in other parts of the game too.

Last night I was able to make a wharf to be parallel along the shore for 6 tiles. Only problem was when making a random made map, not many shore lines are that long.

I intend to make several wharf shapes as well as the parallel type .. these be ok for those who make scenarios and create their own shore lines.

I removed the crane all together. If I am able to make a suitable jib crane will add it later.

I swapped the crates for the cargo that was on the barges and covered some with a tarpaulin.

Also thinking to remove the logs as they are a bit big and replace them with tarpaulin covered goods.

While you're on port industries, DanMacK drew this a while ago for FIRS, but it never made it in :D I'm pretty certain he'd be happy to see it used (if it's any use for AuzInd) ;)
