Thanks to:
Emperor Jack for helping with GIMP and doing graphics.
Voyager One and others who put together the 2ccts set.
Nekomaster has allowed me to use his sprites from the Generic Australian Rail Set (GARS).
WhiteHand, coalroads_artist, DanMacK, eminence_front, Siema, mdhowe, WhiteHand, Purno, Bastiaan for use of the 38 class sprites from Australian Standard Gauge Set. (I've tried to contact Coalroads and Lachie to make sure it is ok to use their sprites, but to date have not heard from them).

I still got many to do .. besides I can not release it as not received permission to use the 38 class sprites.

Cheers

Thanks Andythenorth,

You might be able to help me with a problem? The 38 steam locos I done, they are from "Australian Standard Gauge Set - Tracking Table" http://users.tt-forums.net/danmack/AusSetTable.html

I can not find anything if they under licence or if others can use. I've sent messages to some of those involved but no reply.

The downloads for that set only have a readme file with no reference to if copyright.

So do you think it safe if I use them as long as I acknowledge where they come from?

Cheers and thanks again

Yair, coalroads artist last posted here 18 months ago http://www.tt-forums.net/memberlist.php ... ile&u=4968

That's not that long ago, maybe he/she will reply to messages :)

Dan will almost certainly be back here and reply soon, he's just busy with life stuff.

The rest I don't know. My view: I wouldn't use sprites without knowing I could (by permission or license). Nobody's going to court, but it causes grief when people use sprites without permission. ;)

Post by GarryG »

Complete list of what I've done to date ..

Rows Number bottom to top, and left to right:

Row 1: This 3801 and carriages and the 422 class diesel belong to the Australian Standard Gauge v0.1.1 .. I have not altered these .. they are here for show as they gave me ideas of my own.
The double header 44 classes are from the 2ccts Train Set in NML .. I just sent them to the paint shop and used them as a template to design the 42 and 43 class.

Row 2: Black Livery streamlined 38 class hauling a Mail Trains consisting of FS, BS, TAM, KP, KB. And 3801 with a KB and HUB Set Newcastle Flyer.

Row 3: 422 class (repainted 2ccts loco) hauling Suburban carriages with end platforms. And a 442 class also hauling Suburban carriages.

Row 4: Double header 421 classes and 43 classes locos.

Row 5: 41 class, double header 40s, 49s, 42s, and 45 classes.

The 44s, 42s and 43s need some paint work fixed as the yellow I think a bit bright.

Am I going blind?

Like your opinion on which coach set looks the best.

Top: Light coloured windows and blinds
Centre: Dark windows and blinds
Bottom: Light colour windows and no blinds.

The 38 class locos are my own design with a little help and ideas from the 38s in the Australian Standard Gauge v0.1.1 set.

I agree with Andy. The blinds idea is nice, but just a little difficult to pull off effectively at this scale.

Re: Australian Train Set Stuff

Post by GarryG »

Hi all, I have a working sample of the train set I been making the past few weeks.

This set contains the following:
Steam: 35, 38, 53 and 59 class
Diesel: 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 48, 49, 421, 422 and 442
Coach Sets: HUB Set, RUB Set, Southern Aurora Set, FO Suburban Carriage, Carriages used on Mail Trains such as FS, BS, TAM, TBS, KP, KB, MHO, VHO, EHO
DMU: DEB Set, 600 Class
EMU: Sydney Red Rattles

There are no Goods Wagons in the set. You will need to also use the 2ccts set. It might work with other sets ..

Again I would like to thank the following for helping:
Voyager One for giving me permission to use the sprites from the 2cct set.
Nekomaster allowing me to use his sprites from the Generic Australian Rail Set (GARS).
WhiteHand, coalroads_artist, DanMacK, eminence_front, Siema, mdhowe, WhiteHand, Purno, Bastiaan makers of the Australian Standard Gauge Set, for some ideas I got from their sprites. I don't know if my 3801 is as good as what those fellas did, but at least I gave it a try designing my own.
Also thanks to the many others in this forum for offering their help.

I will not be releasing this set to bananas for a long time yet, as still got many trains to add to it.

Update: Just removed the NSWtrains as a newer version is available below.

Hope those who have downloaded the NSWTrains are happy with it? Hope on Friday afternoon to up date it with so people can test it over the weekend.

It will have the following additions:

I copied these from the 2ccts set .. and started to change the colours .. some colour changes may not be finished by Friday. These are:
Sydney Railway Locomotive No.1, Z25 Steam, D57 Steam, S-Set (EMU), A-Set (EMU), H-Set (EMU), Hunter Railcars (DMU), Countrylink Xplorer (DMU).

I have made the following:
AD60 Beyer-Garratt (I used the 2ccts sprite and made it larger using ideas from the Australian Standard Gauge Set), Z29 Steam, C36 Steam both green and black livery, Silver City Comet (with Power Unit and coaches 1st, 2nd, Diner, and Mail van), 400 class Railbus with pass and mail trailers, CPH (Tin Hare) Railbus, 620 class (DMU) and Sputnik Electric with the double decker centre cars.

What else I adding .. well you will have to wait and see.

GarryG, have you got backups of your work, including all the code and sprites?

Plenty of people have lost nice work on newgrfs because their hard drive died, or they accidentally deleted it or whatever

You have a few options, including
- upload all the source here (if that works for your license), in a zip or tar or such
- use something like Dropbox, keep it in the cloud
- use a code repository with version control (as many of us do, using OpenTTDCoop's service), this has a bit of a learning curve mind

You might have it covered, not teaching you to suck eggs, but don't want to see you lose everything due to a glitch ;)

Thanks Andythenorth for your suggestions.

I got 2 hard drives and make a back up of what I done.

I not 100% sure what licence I should use, so I think it fair the one that 2ccts includes with their download is same one I should use.

I happy if people use what I doing in any way they wish. The fellas in these forums that helped me and allow me to use their projects, so it only fair I allow every one here to also use what I do. Although my project is a long way from finish, any one wanting the sources welcome to have if they wish. Just let me know.

If ever I step on any ones toes it not intentional, what I do is meant in good faith.
GarryG wrote:use a code repository with version control (as many of us do, using OpenTTDCoop's service), this has a bit of a learning curve mind
Is this where many up load there projects in experimental stage?

Losing things for glitches, I done that before I got the second hard drive. Lost my scenarios often and they take me so long to try make. Now I will need to start them all again once I finish the train set .. but that the fun of it all.

Cheers

It's meant to offer a home for projects throughout their whole lifecycle, including services like code hosting, bug tracking, build and translation services:
http://dev.openttdcoop.org

Andy is right though: if you never used any version control before, it will mean getting used to it. But (IMHO) it's not bad and you'll not want to miss it, once you get the hang of it.

I'll have a look at that after I finish what I doing now - I doing all the different Sydney EMUs.

Might be a good idea even if I put my work on there once or twice a week.

Re: Australian Train Set Stuff

Post by GarryG »

Hi fellas, here an update to my train set. I a day early, but having a few days break from doing the trains and hope to enjoy playing for a while.

It has what I listen above, plus a CPH Tin Hare Rail Motor, and MHG, LHG and FHG Guards Vans.

Some are still in 2ccts company colours.

The guards vans are the types that where on goods trains and mixed trains and some times seen on passenger trains.

They carry a small amount of goods and some other cargos like the guards vans did in the past. The LHG and FHG can also be converted to carry a small amount of passengers as they did in the old days.

I used to work on Broadmeadow Station in NSW, and the Mail Trains carried not just Mail and Parcels, but also Vegetables, Fruit and seafoods, so I thinking of arranging these vehicles to allow the transport of these as well. What you think?

The rate I going I think be ready to go on Banana in another few weeks .. I hope.

Source files are available on request.

I keep thinking lots of people for helping, but there is one I left out and I think he most important of them all, and that is Transportman. If he hadn't did all the coding for the 2cct set, I'd be up that famous creek with out a paddle and sailing in very rough waters. Thanks a million.

Cheers

Update: NSWTrains set been removed as a newer version available on next page.

Yair, good idea. Iron Horse does similar.

1) Set your mail vans to *classes* 'CC_EXPRESS' and 'CC_ARMOURED'. This will catch most of them.
2) Add any extra cargo labels you need to the label property.

Hi Andythenorth, I will add extra to the Mail (Parcel) Coaches. Fruit, Vegetables, Fish, Food, Beer.

In the 2ccts set it has the beer being delivered to the Hotels by tankers, I never seen a tanker with 10,000 litres of beer before. Imagine a tanker outside your pub emptying the beer into underground storage tanks? Usually comes from the brewery in Kegs and cartons, so hence the beer in the mail coaches and Guards Vans.

Planetmaker and you idea about me using OpenTTDCoops, I have a look but not get anywhere. I presume I suppose to click on the Apply for New Project button to start adding my things to the site? But it fails to load. Comes up with a 404 error message.

I wasn't going to do any coding today, but enjoy it so have to do some more. It more fun then actually playing the game at moment.

Edit: Some say I blind in one eye and can't see out of the other .. just noticed that Boxcars in 2ccts also carry beer .. not noticed that before.

Remember that theres such thing as bottling/canning plants for beer and booze, and sometimes its just a simple local plant. I've never seen a big ol 18-wheeler pull up to a bar and deliver tonnes and tonnes of beer. I only see that kinda thing at the beer store (Where you buy beer in Canada), every week a big truck delivers tons of beer in cans and bottles to the store. Some of which are bottled in Ontario.

Also, anything food or alcohol based can be delivered by food-grade tankers, so even if for the most part booze isn't delivered by railroad tanks, use your imagination, plus it makes a buck :)
