Well I hate to say it, but the Japan set is about to stall for lack of a coder, and I bet the same thing will happen to the reconstituted Planeset too, until we get this tool...

Yes, we have a temporary artistic bottleneck, but very shortly the bottleneck will be Oracle, who's the only one both able to encode GRFs to their full potential and willing to do so for the work of others.

 to Oracle.

But it would be good to have a tool so other non-artistic and non-coding types can contribute.

 to Owen...

That idea has been around for a long time, it's just that nobody has gotten to it. I was wanting to have a comprehensive planeset, including all the relevant planes, zeppelins, and transport helicopters. We did all the research for it a while back, it just never got off the ground.

I'm going to restart the project after I get the US set and the Japan set put to bed. Then some of the artists will help ChrisCF on the BRset, and most likely some others will be willing to help with the Planeset.

Let's finish what we've started first, before we start or reactivate anything else.

As luck would have it... it's the Easter Holidays starting Friday, so I'll have a bit of time to work on the GRF Creator, hopefully.

Really that requires an extension to the Patch, so you can have a GRF file which replaces building graphics and parameters, much like we do for vehicles.

You can replace building graphics (like crossings).
But I think he is talking about changing how often they appear, it was on the mailinglist some time ago.

As I understand it, the plan would be to replace the fountain and plaza sprites, with some of the newer tall-building sprites, AND also to do a TTDAlter-like change so those buildings would actually generate cargo. That's what I would like to see. So, whenever the town thought it wanted to build a plaza, it would actually build a working big office building, which is better to have and looks nicer.

I don't know, since small towns build them too. Im thinking something like a marketplace. (you know, cheap stalls etc) those things can attract a lot of people.

Well anyway, the point is to replace them with Something Useful. If you made it buildings, and small towns built them too, then in effect you would be making the towns grow faster.
