Beautiful. But shouldn't there be some kind of wall around to protect people from falling into the water and to prevent waves from washing over the deck?
Everybody can contribute to OTTD! It does not require you to be an IT specialist or designer. And it does not take days or weeks of your time either.
There are many simple yet important tasks like translations, investigating facts and details and many other that need work and if you help a bit then the experienced developers can focus more on making OTTD even more awesome!
OTTD = Awesomeness created by a whole lot of volunteers, be one of them if you like the game!

What is wrong cause that GRF wont show up in newGRF menu? I put it to C:\Users\MYNAME\Documents\OpenTTD\content_download\data where my any other GRF files are and another release at first post in this topic works normally. Have anybody else same problems?

EDIT: I use 1.2.0 release

I actually did start off with a barrier there, but as a result it sort of looked like a double-ended tugboat rather than a ferry, so I opted to leave them off. :)

To the above: You probably need to remove the first grf from this topic in order for the new one to show up, since they use the same GRF ID.

I agree, also the real life one has that. I made a quick mockup in paint. Doesn't look to bad if you add some more green.

And indeed, you have to remove the first grf to see this one. same GRF-ID.

You should increase the version number with each release, that way the latest version will always be shown.

I added said barriers to the sides, about how they are in the real thing. I guess it does look more realistic, although it's hard to tell from the picture :)

EDIT: Better pic so you can see the change.

Don't put it in content_download, but in \Documents\OpenTTD\newgrf. The game controls the content_download folder, you shouldn't mess with that.

O yeah! Maybe also a few more "whites" to make the transition from the barrier to the main structure a bit curved.
To mimic this in the real life ship:

Yeah, it's pretty much from the NE.....which, since you're asking, I can only assume is wrong :D I'm guessing it should be more to the right?

I'll have to deal with that later, my eyes will start to bleed soon if I don't take a break :P

The angle of the sun was discussed (and, surprisingly, well agreed upon) in this thread: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=55191

Interesting thread I suppose, although I personally disagree about 4:30 being the position of the sun. It doesn't seem any lower than 3:00 to me, possibly even slightly above that. Look at the river graphics for example. ;)

Depends if you're looking at opengfx or original ttd graphics ;) Original is lit from SE mostly, except where copy-pasted-flip has been used. Original trains and road vehicles appear to be lit 'however looks best'.

Lots of FISH is lit wrong, because I made a lighting mistake. I've been slowly and painfully correcting it, which makes things look less muddy. TTD-style sprites should be nicely lit from SE, and quite high contrast, it looks better. V453000 could probably write an essay on that ;)

So, sun comes from the right-ish direction, got it!

I was wondering if FISH was lighted funny, it seemed that some ships (specifically the large ferry) had light coming from almost directly North. I just attributed it to several people drawing sprites, making some look a little different. Maybe that's what threw me off! :P Nah, just kidding. They still look good though, easily forgettable mistakes. :)

Anyway, the light on my sprites isn't too far off I guess, so won't be a huge amount of work to fix, just slightly annoying. Once again, I'll chalk it up to a learning experience and build from there. Everyone's comments/advice is much appreciated! :)

PS: I added the curves:

Means your - views will be brighter, which looks nicer, especially in the buy menu. ;)

TTD 'however looks best' lighting isn't hard to understand: What you see is what is lit. In an isometric view, there are four sides, two you can see, two that are (partially) hidden. Naturally, you light the stuff you see and not the stuff you don't.
