NUTS!!! Let's go NUTS!!!

Post by V453000 :) »

Hello people!

I present to you the currently so-called NUTS Unrealistic Train Set, acronymed as NUTS.

This is an attempt to create a train set that would be absolutely independent on real-life thought processes and focus only on the actual gameplay.
As name suggests, this newGRF shall be absolutely insane. The graphics can show absolutely anything that comes to one's mind. Shall it be pigs or other strange things in wagons, super-futuristic trains and more...

Thanks to absolute freedom of mind, I hope to create a train set that would be really fun to play and original to look at.

The home of the development is at the openttdcoop devzone:

http://dev.openttdcoop.org/projects/ur-trains

There you can find any additional information and discussions and of course contribute to the project itself!

I would like to invite anyone who can either draw, or just imagine! Not just sprites are important but also creative ideas and suggestions because one can't go too NUTS!
I could use a hand with basically everything, be it sprites, ideas, and mainly coding.

So with this thread I would like to open space for discussion, contributions, feedback and anything related to the development of the set and at the same time I would like to lure more people in of course, because more heads make better things.

And the madness shall begin!

Interesting concept! This might just take off as a project! But why focus only on trains, when you could expand it to the other modes of transport as well? I'm sure that there are people with interesting ideas for trucks and aircraft as well.

How about this for a train?

As for coding, I recommend NML. If I have time, I would even help you code it, but unfortunately I haven't got much spare time atm. I'll let you know when I do

Thanks!

Exactly as you called it - possibly let it expand later, but my focus is only trains as there is the functional originality of the train set. After all it is going to work quite a bit like eGRVTS, so a good RV set is already there, aircraft sets are quite nice and FISH is just awesome. :)

Yes, I already *somehow* figured that NML is the way :)

P.S. The train is truly awesome as an inspiration :D Let's see if we can draw it interestingly enough

What about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ThrustSSC as a high speed people transporter?
Capacity is somewhat limited, but its speed makes up for that :p

Something like that is indeed likely to be there :). Anyway, what do you need capacity for an engine? :P

Thrust SSC wasn't a train, it was a car (well thing with wheels) hence it needs a capacity even if in reality it only had 1 seat for the driver.

Why not change the Thrust's wheels to steel ones and use it as a loco?

I may not have time to draw/code right now, but I will find some more pictures of inspiration :D

I actually have incomplete sprites of this one already:

So what? :) We are searching for inspiration, not for a real-life image of the thing we want to pixelize

Interesting concept! How about a steam multiple unit? Just like an ordinary rapid transit DMU/EMU appearance-wise (e. g. BR Class 314), but equipped with some sort of oil injection and automatization, so that it can be remotely controlled by a single driver.

CCCP!?! That's got to be 20+ years old?

What the hell is that thing and when was it designed/prototyped? Or is it some modern crazy design that someone has simply made Soviet.

It's a concept model designed by Luigi Colani in 1979 for possible usage on the Trans-Siberian railway. I got it from here: http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2008/05 ... olani.html

Wow, what an incredible designer, going to look up on more of his concepts, thanks for the link and the name, i think just about everything on that page would be a candidate for NUTS!

Why do you think the fastest truck in long vehicles is called Spitzer Colani :)

The first thing that came to mind was this seasons Top Gear episode 4... They are actually onto something even though they are morons in execution and totally NUTS all round.

There is also this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BooXZW-A ... re=related

Attached pics of Top Gear car-trains from ep4.

How about a train engine that is two horses side by side? For the early ages.

Edit: Or perhaps four of them in one engine is more reasonable.

Well, you could just chain together as many two-horse units as you want...

That's realistic. Not allowed :)

Two elephants might be unrealistic. Two unicorns definitely so.
