Sodor Railways Expansion for UKRS2 - (Thomas Reboot)

Post by DanMacK »

This is an attempt at an expansion for UKRS2 plus a revitalization of the Thomas the Tank Engine project. For background on the Railway Series and the prototypes therein, I recommend Martin Clutterbuck's excellent site "The Real Lives of Thomas the Tank Engine"

I'm taking this on a little bit more "Prototypical" angle, so the adding of faces will come later. Attatched is a start based on repaints of UKRS equipment (With permission of course ;) )

Eventually I'd like to include the Peel Godred branch Electric Engines, the Culdee Fell Railway, the Skarloey Railway and possibly even the Arlesdale Railway. I'm considering this as an expansion to UKRS to allow "other" engines to run the railway in the background in addition to the "famous" engines.

The plan initially is to include the following:

NWR Steam Locos

No. 1 Thomas (Done)
No. 2 Edward (WIP)
No. 3 Henry (Both Versions - WIP)
No. 4 Gordon (WIP)
No. 5 James (Black and Red - WIP)
No. 6 Percy (Done)
No. 7 Toby (WIP)
No. 8 Duck (WIP)
No. 9 Donald (WIP)
No. 10 Douglas (WIP)

NWR Diesel Locomotives

D1 - Daisy (WIP)
D2 - BoCo (WIP)
D3 - Bear (WIP)
Pip & Emma

NWR Electric Engines

E1-4 - NER EF-1 Class (WIP - Livery TBD)
EMU's (Similar to BR 308 Class) (WIP - Livery TBD)
E5+ (Similar to BR Class 86) (WIP - Livery TBD)

Private owner/Other Locos

Mavis
Bill & Ben
Diesel (08 Class)

Possibly a few others as well. The new TV series is getting a bit on the extreme side with nwe characters and whatnot, so I was considering keeping with the "original" Railway Series to start. The others from Emily on could be added at a later date.

Was also thinking of adding Harold, Bertie, Terrence and maybe Trevor as well

OK, this officially does it. I've been tempted for over a year now to create an Isle of Sodor map/scenario, and I've held off because I've not been able to find any decent maps with details on all the areas, but also because I didn't think there'd be any interest in creating a map for it. I think I'll get started on one. :-)

EDIT: The project has now started.

That's why it would be an expansion to UKRS2 so you can have other trains in the background. :)

I also support this, can't wait.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure ;) Considering the Reverend had a No. 9 model named Donald :P

Yep, there's maps there, but not much detail that you can actually READ, most of the images are too small and/or blurry. I did find the original source for Amos Wolf's copy of the map, which will help with placing cities and stops. The Christopher Edwards cartographical map is what I'm really after, since it has all the height info. I found one in Japanese that was large enough that I could see most of the details.

For those that think that the set will be very limited, I present a couple of the earlier engines (still WIP of course)

1. The Ellsworth & Knapford Railway's Tidmouth extension was built in 1908 and employed 4 0-4-0 "Coffeepot" locomotives. These were built by Sir Topham Hatt I, but the designer is unknown. They lasted on the island in the Ffarquhar Quarries until 1951 when they were presumably scrapped

2. Skarloey is shown on a flatcar and arrived on the island in 1865. Pulling him is Neil, No. 2 of the Sodor & Mainland Railway. Neil and his 2 brothers arrived on the island in 1853, and it's unknown when they were scrapped.

More sprites tomorrow (finished ones :P)

Next up is Henry. North Western No. 3 has an illustrious past. Built in 1920 as an experimental cross between a Gresley A1 and a Great Central 4-4-2, he never was the greatest runner. After a wreck in 1935 at Killdane, Henry was shipped to the Mainland and came back looking suspiciously like a Stanier Black 5.

Also added - Gordon

This is an expansion set for the UKRS2 based on the North Western Railway and connecting lines. The North Western Railway is located on the Island of Sodor, which happens to be the location for the Thomas the Tank Engine series.

Basically, it's a Thomas the Tank Engine set that's fully compatible with UKRS2
