This is what eGRTVS needs. Currently the cargoes lack variety!

Sadly this is a combinatorial nightmare, eGRVTS uses ~8 different sets of sprites per cargo, 8 orientations per sprite. With 32 cargoes this is 2048 sprites. Including loading stages this is around 5000-10000 sprites! BANDIT, assuming I understand the plan, would only use 2-3 sets of sprites per cargo (2-3 types of trailers only) - 2000-3000 sprites...

I'm liking this. Will this set include buses as well?

No, BANDIT Is Trucks :)

Well maybe. I don't have much personal interest in drawing buses, but code-wise, it's no problem to include buses.

Buses are pretty similar worldwide, they come in four types: US, European, Double-decker, and 'robust' (India etc). come to think of it, I was thinking of doing an Indian bus set, don't know why...I just like India.

Anyway, perhaps Pikka wants to extend HOVS?

"Buses? Ack, No! Dis Is Trucks!"

<Lakie> Well, they do the same thing but the code is different.

I think we could do with a realistic non cc Bus Set or Buses in relistic liveries replaced with CC eg lots of the Ausie bus companies have simple 2 colour liveriess that could be replaced with 2cc but this is kinda off topic in here.

Road trains? Interesting. VERY INTERESTING! HEQS is great but I was always disappointed that it cannot carry all cargos... Go for it. Will it be compatible with oher GRF sets (HEQS, LV4 etc)?

Looking good! I've always wanted road trains in OTTD, especially now that it's possible to make massively long articulated road vehicles.
i never liked the egrvts trucks that much; no containers and whoever heard of carrying livestock in cages on a flatbead truck?
However, one question:

Will the trucks be American style or Australian style? Because almost all Australian semi trailers have 3 axle trailers.
Maybe categorise them?

o--o --------ooo European
o-oo --------ooo Australian
o-oo ---------oo American

or further types... just my ideas of what might go well in this set

o-oo _________oo-oo low loader
o-oo -oo _________ooooo low loader with weight spreading dolly
oo-oo, o-ooo 4 axle prime movers
o-oo -----ooo ---------ooo B doubles and B-triples
o-oo --------ooo oo---------ooo standard road train (2 full size semi railers)

Regards,
Jake

It's milk in churns ;) With default industries, 'livestock' is sometimes conceptually 'milk' ;)

The plan is for BANDIT to be a platform for producing specific grfs. So templated code, a sprite library, and standard sprite sizes, enabling us to combine US, EU and other trucks with various trailers.

If we get it right, we can do a North American set, an Australia / NZ set (quad-quad artics, triples, b-doubles), and an EU set, plus if there's interest and time, South America, India, Africa, former USSR, Japan etc. I'm not promising this will happen, but I want to do some work to make it possible :)

Man, I hope this project bares the fruit of a newgrf, I would so love openttd scale long vehicles (like road trains, large, powerful trucks, etc) and also, a few suggestions for buses, the Toronto Transit Commission Orion buses are two color so its easy to put in, along with GO Transit Buses, which are also 2 coloured. Once thing that would be awesome is having some low floors buses, especially the kind that Durham region Transit Uses (they're awesome, and hell, they sound like a loco when packed and going up steep hills like Annapolious Street - Oshawa or parts of Rossland Rd - Oshawa)

Ohhh! Well, its probably because I've always seen milk carried in tankers, never "churns" :P

Also, I think this will go well with the German Road Vehicle Set which has no trucks (yet)

Anyway, keep going! This is gonna be awesome! :D

Don't make me all confused...
I read "Harris" and "Bandit" so I went on thinking "Captain Phil Harris" and "Time Bandit". Which obviously don't match one another, but then you and FISH got me thinking that you was attempting to put the Deadliest Catch vessels in the game. Then I read about trucks, get confused even more, decide to check the link again to find out that Rolf isn't Phil, but that Bandit still has to do something with Time, as it will be done in a certain time from now.

Hey, double 48 footers or triple 28 footers are more than enough to scare me! The Canadians allow double 53 footers.

Don't know about Kentucky, but up here in the NE we restrict "large combination vehicles" to the interstates and "qualifying access highways."
UPS does occasionally run double 28 footers, which (with a 2 axle tractor) are legal anywhere on the national highway network.
https://www.nysdot.gov/nypermits/repository/perm71.pdf

The roads in and around NYC are so narrow and congested they restrict vehicle width, weight and trailer length even more: http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/downloads/pdf/vehdimen.pdf

And yeah, every so often, a trucker, despite the requirements for escort vehicles and route plans for OS/OW vehicles will wander off a truck route, and end up afoul of a sign or pole at an intersection: http://slharvey.com/MiscPix/PropTruckStuck.html
kamnet wrote:Road trains... those things FRIGHTEN me. But quite interesting, since such trucks are not allowed to be operated on US roads. Are these going to be able to turn corners on roads properly?

FISH, FIRS and HEQS are what's going on with Bandit (i.e. nothing is going on with Bandit).

I only have two arms and one brain. Meanwhile, patience is a virtue, and greater virtue would repose handsomely on you.

Some ideas tested for HEQS and FISH recently will show up in Bandit though.

You bring the scenario, I'll bring the truck. Who brings the beer?
Y'know, somebody did recently just create a new Southeast USA heightmap...

Maybe we need a few new "industries" to pay for all that beer. Anyone working on GRFs for BBQ joints, frat houses, and biker bars yet? :P

Just set up a tourist bus route to your local "gentleman's club"

I would rather see some european trucks, we have some sort of (short) road trains here in Holland for example.
