FIRS 3.0.0 Alpha 1 is now on Bananas.

Changelog here: http://bundles.openttdcoop.org/firs/rel ... gelog.html

Known issues

OpenTTD compatibility check is borked.
- FIRS 3 requires OpenTTD 1.7.0 or newer, but Bananas will allow 1.6.0 to download it.
- the in-game check incorrectly reports that 1.6.0 is required, this is a mistake in the text

Industries needing graphics:
- Basic Oxygen Furnace
- Electric Arc Furnace
- Slag Grinding Plant

Cargos
- wrong icons, weights and payment curves in many cases

Industry colours on minimap
- experimental feature to make all industry minimap colours (1) unique (2) legible on all 3 minimap colours (green, dark green, purple)
- may or may not be good

There will be a CHIPS release soon, providing station graphics for some of the new cargos.
EDIT: done, CHIPS 1.8.0 now on Bananas, with support for most of FIRS 3 cargos.

First line of the changelog pretty much :D

But we're not supposed to read those! It's a bad feature!

Protip: put "INCOMPATIBLE WITH THE LAST VERSION OF FIRS" at the top of the forum post that announces a new version that is incompatible with the last.
No pics no clicks. Seriously.

Testing my generic NRT road vehicles with FIRS3 (and new CHIPS), enjoying an in-depth Steeltown game -- quick tour of the steelmaking process in this region:
Coal and iron ore deposits co-located. Rigid trucks drop coal from a farther mine here while semis struggle to carry it all off to the coke oven.

This route will need to be replaced with trains soon - the coal trucks drop off to the left of the oven while coke is loaded up on the right.

Double post because I have four images to show...

Southeast to the blast furnace:
From left to right, the blast furnace receives short trainloads of stone, truckloads of coke, unit trains of iron ore (train in the first image), and then produces slag and pig iron at the lower yard.

And by mainline to the steel converter:
A trainload of iron gets delivered to the basic oxygen furnace, along with short rakes of quicklime. Two open trolley-trucks carry off the waiting slag, and bi-mode flatbed trucks take the finished steel to be turned into various products. A bendy bus serves residents of the mill town.

I know that some people complain about some of the FIRS industries looking too modern for some types of games. If any of those people wanna try their hand at drawing, here are some images of 19th and early 20th century sugar refineries.

Popping my head back in briefly ;) Love the new graphics!

When I have time, I'll try and get some earlier industries drawn... lol

Hi Andy,

Looks like a few cargoes are still missing from the cargotypes Wiki page.
The missing ones appear to be Kaolin, Peat, Zinc (there might be others). Would you mind updating it? That would simplify a trainset developer's life ;)

I can't, I'm either banned or locked out of the newgrf wiki

Nice... :P

Can you at least add the cargo classes to the cargo description on your page then (http://bundles.openttdcoop.org/firs/pus ... rence.html)? That would help me code my vehicles.

Kaolin is probably bulk, covered. Maybe it should have liquid too, it's transported as slurry often.

Peat is probably bulk.

Zinc is piece goods.

I say 'probably' because other people care more about classes than I do. I do vehicle support by label, there have been too many boring community discussions about cargo classes :D

Does this mean you didn't even assign a class when coding the cargoes? If you didn't, you're basically forcing all the other set developers to go by labels :p

Being a retired OpenTTD developer does not mean I know what I am doing.

Nah, they're assigned ;)

I say 'probably' because if I say 'cargo x is bulk' or whatever, someone will pop up with a google image search result showing that once, in 1972, it was piece goods. Life is too short eh?

(As I type this, my 7 year old is literally asking why mail can't go in box cars, so eh).

But I haven't extended that to trains in Iron Horse. Iron Horse is rubbish, I should probably delete it...

FIRS 3.0.0-alpha-3 is now on Bananas.

Compatible with FIRS 3.0.0-alpha-2 or 3.0.0-alpha-1. Not compatible with any other version of FIRS.

-- changes --

- translations for multiple languages (thanks translators!)
- add liquid cargo class to Kaolin
