Thanks
Did a quick mod of one of my 4-4-0's for the NARS and Voila... an A4 - These were built in 1872 for the Hangö - Hyvinge line, and were acquired by the Finnish State Railways in 1875 when that line fell on hard times. The last one survived until 1918.
Next in the alphabetical list... a B1 0-4-2T from 1868 as well.
Also added, a WIP shot of the C1 0-6-0 - A Freight engine from 1869

This set has got nice speed on developing now.
Upcoming release 0.5.5. Most important features for it:
- Totally balanced and adjustable purchase and running costs
- Finnish translation
- Wagon running costs, can be turned off if wanted, encourages not to use too long trains
- Numerous new units:
Here's a 5700 ton coal train consisting of 60 Vok open wagons and three Dr16 locomotives. Heaviest trains on Finland like those, but on reality, there's iron ore pellets in place of coal there.
It's 31.5 tiles long, requiring some serious loading station too.

There's a release 0.5.6 already done (language strings and some details fixed), but BaNaNaS web-uploader does not work with this grf (about 20 MB), so musa will be used instead for uploading. Unfortunately, musa seems to be broken: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=63119.

As I guessed, the Sr3 will be Siemens Vectron. We already have sprites for that in game. Now someone just needs to recolour it to this livery:

Hold your horses till 2016, when the first ones will probably appear on rails.
Re: [WIP] Finnish Trainset - Alpha available NOW on BaNaNaS!
Neat, that'll save quite a bit of time! It'll be interesting to see if the equipment for -40°C will be sufficient for Finnish climate - Alstom's Prima II-derived KZ4AT, which was one of the last other competitors apparently, is equipped for -50°C to +50°C. Fortunately, OpenTTD doesn't know too harsh climates.kyosuke1989 wrote:As I guessed, the Sr3 will be Siemens Vectron. We already have sprites for that in game. Is the Finnish train set still under development? I can't believe this thread is still somewhat alive after about 10 years

Search for finnish on BaNaNas. You'll find those

Look at the Overview page, most projects have a nightly build you can download and install (see the readme of OpenTTD for install instructions).
Being a retired OpenTTD developer does not mean I know what I am doing.

Fennia Rail (formerly Proxion Train), VR Group's competitor, has bought 3 refurbished locomotives:
http://www.fenniarail.fi/news.html
Well then, we need to draw, do some sounds and add that locomotive too eventually Congrats to Fennia Rail! According to some sources, they will be also using (renting) SeaRail wagons for their initial services.
Last six-axle locomotive operating on commercial traffic in Finland was Dr13 and they were phased out of service by 2000. So first time of six-axle at commercial traffic in fifteen years. Additionally it will become the most powerful commercially operating locomotive in Finland, in terms of tractive effort.

Fennia Rail Oy has made a supply agreement for three diesel locomotives with the Czech CZ Loko a.s. Locomotives will be delivered to Fennia Rail in the fall of next year, and the company will then start freight transport on the Finnish rail network.
“The long uncertainty of the availability of railway rolling stock suited for Finnish conditions has come to an end. Our Czech partner has built locomotives for 160 years and has experience in building those for different climate conditions and track gauges. With these locomotives we can start freight transport on the Finnish railways in 2015”, says Kimmo Rahkamo, CEO of Fennia Rail.
The combustion engines will be manufactured by Caterpillar and will fulfill modern emission regulations. They will have the highest traction capacity and lowest emissions of any diesel locomotive in Finland.
“Our operations are based on environmental friendliness, safety and economic efficiency, with which we offer a competitive mode of transport for Finnish industries – straight connections to ports, for example”, says Petri Lempiäinen, Fennia Rail’s chairman of the board.
Type: 774.7F
Engine power: 1550 kW
Traction: Diesel-electric (AC/DC)
Max tractive force 391 kN
Max speed: 90 km/h
Weight: 120 t
Length: 17.3 m
Axles: 6
Ordered: 3

Re: [WIP] Finnish Trainset - Alpha available NOW on BaNaNaS!
Very nice set, works fine together with FISH2 (both started in 1870), ECS, subarctic climate and rough mountains with medium sea level.
Unfortunately, grf size exceed 20 MB - seems that 99% are those psd files - are these files mandatory?
One bug observed when FRISS is loaded - it is hard to make autoreplace because all categories have same name.
Small issue - Vr1 (26 km/h, 61 kN) have unjustified costs if compared to earlier locomotives.
EDIT: autoreplace bug is related strictly with FRISS , not this set.

Re: [WIP] Finnish Trainset - Alpha available NOW on BaNaNaS!
I'm having a little problemtranslating this string :
STR_PURCHASE_CAR_HEAT:Car block heating electric supply available
When I search for "car block heater", I stumble upon a device to warm up an engine in order to fire it up.
Is this some kind of motor warming device, or is it heating device for cold-sensitive passengers?
So is it:
-availability of electric supply (for laptops) as well as heating in a coach
-engine-heating device when an electric supply is available
-something else I didn't think about?
Thanks.

Well, it's the car carrier wagon, that has 230V 50 Hz sockets for passenger cars.arikover wrote:I'm having a little problemtranslating this string :

Because of cold climate in Finland, usually there is heater element of about 1000W installed on car engines. So it's motor warming device for pre-heating on -10 degrees Celsius downwards.
