It's only vanilla problem that vanilla don't have a lot of useful things and nobody plays in vanilla. All modern patchpacks/forks support 64 or at least 32 slots.
Therefore, a useful GRF should, at least provide such an opportunity.

The overwhelming majority of OpenTTD players use vanilla. There are only two patch packs which currently support 32 tracktypes, which I'm sure they're going to update to 64 in the future. But there are many packs and forks which will not.

[+] Spoiler
Of course, there are also many of special forks to support individual patches. But they in any case should not support anything, except their patches.
P.S. You really need this discussion here? It's topic about xUSSR set, but the way. And my request was about xUSSR set too…

As kamnet stated before, 64 track types are not in vanilla OTTD yet. As long as it is like that, adding 3rd option won't have high priority for us. Just don't make them run on other rails if you don't want to. :)

Meanwhile new liveries were added for ED9M and new ones for ED4M will be added soon.

This being said, JGR's patchpack allows up to 64 railtypes in OTTD. No need to compile anything, just install, extract and launch.

If ever you want xUSSR trains to run on standard gauge, disable the xUSSR tracks.
This is much simpler.

And yes, now Soviet set has problem witch these sets too. Not only with 32-64 tracks builds.

Other than xUSSR there's no such thing as a track set providing broad gauge tracks. A lot provide narrow gauge tracks (French Track Set, Japanese Track Set) but none other than this one provides broad gauge.
Most other sets, like the Spain Set or Finnish Trainset assumes the rails you use are broad gauge. But looking at all the different broad gauges, if we had to make all of them different because of the few centimeters they don't have in common, we would be dead before finishing. :lol:

When I use this set, I always get question marks on some of the letters in the name of the trains and wagons.

Is there a way to fix this?

Yes, use UTF font in config. Like this:
small_font = C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\arialbd.ttf
medium_font = C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\arialbd.ttf
large_font = C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\arialbd.ttf

Can we get an official release page for this so those looking don't have to sift through it?

It depends on what official page is.
A download place https://dev.openttdcoop.org/projects/xussrset
Docs https://wiki.openttd.org/XUSSR_Set
Or do you mean something else?

Just in case you missed it, 1.9.0 beta 2 is out, and now supports 64 track types.

  2. German trains cannot access to xUSSR rails. It's good.
  3. However, in Soviet Russia trains don't care about gauge width and use German (Japanese, American, etc) rails as well. It's not good, I think.
Now I use for gameplay dirt & ugly temporal solution:

Code: Select all

grfcodec -d xussr.grf
sed -i -e 's/RAIL/BAAN/g' -e 's/ELRL/BAAE/g' sprites/xussr.nfo
grfcodec -eg 2 xussr.grf
rm -r sprites
It's works, but it's not good.
Best solution - make this behavior optional.

Is there a chance you will support a more generic rail set like viewtopic.php?f=67&t=84591 or perhaps just the standard Openttd rail?

it does not split AC and DC.
I'll have a look later, but do not guarantee.

Re: xUSSR Set [WIP]

I've started splitting xUSSR Railway set into xUSSR Railway set and xUSSR Railsset
As the first step I''ll make xUSSR Railsset a mandatory set for xUSSR Railway set, but allow xUSSR Railsset to be used without xUSSR Railway set
At the second step I'll make xUSSR Railway set to use other sets
If someone is familiar with viewtopic.php?f=68&t=59379 please let me know, I suppose I'll need some help

I can't reproduce this behavior with xUSSR rails (viewtopic.php?p=1235005#p1235005)

Re: xUSSR Set [WIP]

I think the following behavior would be correct (any suggestions are welcome)

xUSSR Rails (provides 6 speed limits and 4 currents - DC 1.5 DC 3 AC 15 AC 25):
  • by default they act as 1435 (standard) and 1520 (broad) rails at the same time
  • a parameter to specify strict behavior (1435 or 1520) only
xUSSR Railway Set (1520 trains):
  • if some set provides broad rails - use only broad rails
  • if no set provides broad rails - use standard rails
xUSSR Railway Set add-on(1435 trains):
  • if some set provides standard rails - use only standard rails
  • if no set provides standard rails (for example xUSSR Rails set to broad rails only) - use broad rails
Would such behavior be correct?

How to code it using only rail labels (no GRF-ID check)?

Well, I've split the set into rails and trains, but getting correct behavior is not guaranteed.
For example, U&RERMM2 has only 2 available rails when xUSSR set loaded.
I suppose, like the cargo support, when cargo class based code was recognized to be useless, and was replaced with direct cargo labels support, I would need to provide direct support for each track set. To do that I need the list of sets to support.
  • OTTD (no track set) - support provided
  • U&ReRMM2
  • Dutch tracks
What's else?
