Realism and AI

Post by crdigger »

1. AI is quite stupid. Bot cannot create profitable company even in simple conditions.
2. Realism is low.
You can create 2 airports at 2 corners of map in big cities ,they will be full and you will get a lot of money. What the people fly for ?
The cities grow regardless presence of jobs, supply and passenger transport. I can suggest that a village cannot grow over 50 inhabitants unless there are above conditions.

Are there any plans to change this?

Unfortunately, as far as I know, the code supporting the AI is quite difficult to modify, not to mention the effects those changes might have on the rest of the game. Supply (goods, food, water, mail, depending upon the climate) and passengers, do affect town growth and can be adjusted in the ttdpatch.cfg file to suit your preferences. As for jobs, those were not included as a factor in the original game. Apparently the citizens of TTD Land are either very lazy, very rich or of noble heritage, or perhaps they are TTDPatch developers.

Consideratuion about traffic realism.

Suppose we have combined train and bus station. Both train and bus will be always full if there are any passengers at station. In reality the passengers travel more to closer destinations and less - to far destinations. We can suppose that yearly passenger and mail traffic amount T = P1*f1(P2) * f2(D), where P1 and P2 - populations, D - distance,f1 and f2 - some functions. For in-city traffic, we could divide big cities by squares. Also we can consider relay transpostation from city to airport or to train station, an airport far out of city currenlty doesn't have any passengers.

Suppose we have power station and 2 coal transports from different mines. Station should accept limited amount of coal per year , first from cheaper source. So that more far and expensive thansport will run out of unload like it occurs in reality.

Both are good suggestions but they would make the game extremely complicated for the average player who is only interested in building transportation networks and making lots of money.

"New AI" of 0.5.3 is pretty good. They work with low income, but stable and I cannot cause them to close the business, they use only road vehicles.

0.5.3 is OpenTTD not TTDPatch. This forum is for TTDPatch. ;)
