underground station

Post by Sir A. Boey »

Hello,

I would like to see a station which could be build underground in the city center as seen in Brussels Central (Belgium - see attachement)

This would be beter because you could reach more passengers and you wouldn't have to destroy all these buildings and roads...

I'm not talking about a subwaystation but a real train station.

here's the link

(PS: the image is in jpg because I couldn't transform it into png sorry for that)

Subway or underground trainstation makes no difference to the TTD code. It means underground construction (other than tunneling) has to be allowed. I don't see TTDPatch announcing that feature anytime soon or anytime at all. Perhaps OTTD offers a chance here?!

Or maybe not...

There are a couple of workarounds... You can have two stations either side of a tunnel and have the train route through one and stop at the other.

That's purely cosmetic though.

On a line with one way running, you could have a station just at one end of the tunnel, which would still look realistic, if not causing problems with passenger loading times.

Other than that, I'm afraid - as good ol' Hyronymus says - it's impossible.

Yes, it's not going to be anytime soon, maybe in OTTD 1.0

Sadly there are a lot of things that we can see in real life that aren't yet reproducable in TTDP.

Diagonal bridges... Junctions under bridges... Yada yada yada. Signal gantries! Caution signals! Etc...

One day, maybe. :D

All work by the men in the know is greatly appreciated, however :D

Of course, one could design 'roofed' station tiles that look like city buildings, streets and a tunnel entrance, but it would still only be a station, the 'buildings' would not contribute to the city, and the 'streets' wouldn't be runnable.

Though I believe a patch was being developed to make something of this sort possible? Road tiles as part of train stations? Or summat...

There are a couple of station sets that have road tiles on them, but they're simply eye-candy.

That's not what I said.

Raichase and eis_os were discussing something about allowing road vehicles on something.

A *patch* change. Not a graphic set.

That was before we had JGR's Adjacent station patch... now we can easily put roads through.

I think AndersI is on to something... if you were able to use the current buildings in the game and have them drawn one tile height higher, then you could easily have underground stations. the entrance/exit would just be a tunnel...

The upcoming release of the canadian stations set is already working on this sort of idea, where the platforms are underneath the station buildings in a "tunnel"

Yes, but you still have to dig a hole to place the station. The station itself, just has a building and some car parks on top of the platforms; i.e. all tiles are still ordinary station tiles and the roads are not usable by road vehicles - all is just for eye candy. This is not what we would normally understand as being an 'underground station'.

I do believe that he is the coder who is in the process of programming that station.

Yes, they are from a yet to be released version of NABS; you've got to talk to Aegir about it.
