Loading new graphics

Hiya all. Im a long time fan of the game but completely new to TDD Patch. I had given up playing when I couldn't get it to work on XP. But I now have it working thanks to this great program. My problem is I downloaded some new GRF's but I dont understand how to install them.

1. Download the graphics
2. If you don't have it yet, create a new folder called newgrf in the TTD directory
3. If the files are in .zip format, unzip them. Make sure the .grf files go into the newgrf folder
4. Add the new .grf files to either newgrf.cfg (DOS) or newgrfw.cfg (Windows) in the TTD folder. Create that file if it doesn't exist.

I understand 1-3 but 4 confuses me. There is a file called newgrfw.cfg but it's a file that can't be opened. So how do I add the new grf?

Do I delete the file and create a new folder?

Yes it can. Open it with notepad.

thanks for your help I have managed to get some graphics to load but some are now coming up with invalid sprike code or something. Can you please tell me what this means?
