Crash - no log created

Post by Smogg »

TTD keeps crashing at a certain point, but there is no crah log in my TTD folder.
I am using TTD for windows on Vista Home Premium 32bit and TTD Patch version 2.0 that came with the download.

I had another crash in the same game before, but could avoid it by not taking over the AI's company.

I attached the savegame to this post. When you load the game it just takes a minute or so until it crashes.
Am i doing something wrong?

Maybe yes, maybe no ... We need more information ... you should post a copy of your ttdpatch.cfg file to begin with.
Have you added any grf's? If so, post a copy of your newgrf.cfg file.
You might need a more recent than 2.0 patch version. 2.5 beta I suggest as a minimum.
The 2.6 Alphas ( aka nightlies) are even more fun as many of the newer graphics require the latest and greatest.

Thanks for your quick reply :D
After the download I installed it and started playing. I didn't change or add anything.
Here's my ttdpatch.cfg

Here's my ttdpatch.cfg
Using Windows Notepad (Do NOT use Word or any other editor) open your ttdpatch.cfg.
The very last entry is Win2k=0
Change this to Win2k=on
Save the file and run your game.
Let us know what happens.

Oh my.
Ok ... next step ... Look in the folder where you installed TTD ... there should be a file named TTDLOADW.OVL . Delete it.
Don't worry ... TTDPatch will automatically write a new one.
Let's see what that does for your game.

Next I load your save game while making a note that I and using TTDPatch nightly r2112 and have only ttdpbasew.grf 0 0 0 0 0 loaded which is required for all nightlies.
Et voila! I get a crash with no crash log so it would appear to be reproducible.
Without a crash log we need to get and run a debugger as described here.
You should install this too. It may come in handy in the future.
Running your saved game and ollydbg, when the game crashes, I take a screenshot of the ollydbg window, paste the screenshot into an image editor that can save images in png format and attach the image below.
Now we wait for a Patch developer to find this post, analyze the screenshot and tell us what's wrong and hopefully, how to fix it.

Another thought for you top try:
In Windows Vista, you should be able to set compatibility to Windows XP SP 3.

A dev looked at the ollydbg and apparently the game has a broken subsidiary. Does TTD crash hen you start a new game?

EDIT:A little poking around on the TTDPatch web page and I found the fix to your subsidiary problem.
Start here.
Click on SV1fix.
Download the zip file and extract the .exe into a folder of your creation/choosing.
Next, click on SV1Codec, find it's download and save/open the zip to the same folder where you just put SV1fix.
Now, move your saved game into that same folder.
Now open a Command Prompt (aka DOS) window and point the command tree to your new folder.
Type in "SV1fix TRT21.SV1" without the quotation marks
Move the save game back to where it belongs
That's it. Exit the command prompt window and enjoy your saved game. :D
