500 Server error's
I have been getting periods of several minutes (up to 20) on the Forums and the Wiki where I get 500 Server error consistently, I presume anything else hosted on the forums server will do the same. I can not reliably load any page on the Forums or the Wiki during these seemingly random periods that happen around 3:00 PM AEST.

Re: 500 Server error's
Ive had these this morning as well, isn't this a host issue?

Re: 500 Server error's
I had problems loading the forums too, this morning, although no error was given, after 2 minutes of loading I kinda gave up. It does happen more often, usually in mornings, AFAIR.

For me it's a pain when trying to clean spam Hopefully Owen will see this even though he's on holiday.

Patchman was. I think the almighty will be visiting tonight (Tuesday) so hopefully he can have a quick look.47 407 wrote:Should really be a second in command when the almighty is on holiday......

Owen has informed me that he has fixed the issue.

Re: 500 Server error's
The FastCGI backend was getting overloaded now and then I think, so I've increased the number of PHP processes which will hopefully have fixed this.
Re: 500 Server error's
I still find the forum slow-loading comparing to my other daily visit sites.

Re: 500 Server error's
Indeed it feels that the responsiveness of forums currently is (still) very slow compared to "normal". The response time seems to be several seconds as opposed to usually a fraction of a second.
But it might be related to the server delivering the ads... not sure.

Re: 500 Server error's
The speed went up when Owen first applied the fix, but has gone down as of the last couple or so hours. The slowness can't be the adds, because moderator only pages which don't have adds are also slow for me.

Re: 500 Server error's
I'm getting delays of up to 8 seconds when loading pages currently. Although other sites I have with Zernebok are working fine, so my guess is its limited to just this site (or he hosts this site independant of the rest of Zernebok?)

Re: 500 Server error's
The forums are on their own server.
They do seem a little slower though, seems to be MySQL-related. I'm looking into it. Sorry for the problems.

Re: 500 Server error's
Still very slow for me. If it helps, the 'database backup placeholder' was in place for at least 4 hours last night (7:00pm PST -> 11:00 PST) when I stopped trying.

Re: 500 Server error's
Yes, that was due to an error after I'd made some changes yesterday meaning the placeholder didn't get deleted (although the backup had completed hours before). Sorry about that.

Re: 500 Server error's
And I was just about to ask someone if it was just my computer that went slow(ish)... Funny enough, today is the first day this lag happened to me...

So... after how many years of keeping this marvelous forum... Why do you still feel the need to apologize for glitches from time to time?orudge wrote:Sorry about that.

Re: 500 Server error's
I've made some more changes to the database server. If this still doesn't help, I'll see what else can be done.

Re: 500 Server error's
I've made some more significant changes. The search index is being rebuilt, this may take some hours to complete. Hopefully it will help matters though.
