Placement of "General" section

Post by planetmaker »

Just when I looked at the forum as a whole one thing struck me as odd:

The more-or-less off-topic forums in that section are placed above all on-topic forums.

Thus my suggestion: place this "General" forum section at the bottom.

Are you referring to the General category, including the "Forum Suggestions and Feedback", "General Transport Discussion" and "Off-Topic" forums?

I rather keep those right where they are. After almost 10 years of being at the forums, I really got used to this.

I see no real point of moving it.

In terms of the theme of the forums, the General section is perhaps not our main forum. However, in terms of activity it most certainly is. I think the way it is sorted now is a very good order :)

Some people always complain. Until all others see tt-forums like they do.

I don't see a problem with the way the forum is laid out in relation to where the top 2 sections are located.

It is true that typically on forums (nowadays, at least), the general discussions go at the bottom of the index, presumably to try and promote the actual content forums above them. However, this forum has been set out like this for as long as I can remember (since before Forum Games existed, at least), so it would probably be too confusing to change it now. :)

Most forums focus on one game/subject, while here it is a bit broader with a lot of TT-related games (and not all are equally active), so I think it is fine to keep the General section on top.

I've actually seen a few older forums switching their order around for this very purpose, but to be honest I so far haven't seen any detectable differences in any of them. IMO, it's a pointless inconvenience ^^

I appreciate seeing the General forum group at the top, as a more visible reminder that there is a place to discuss issues directly related to the board/site in general.

I usually visit the OpenTTD section first with the link from the website, and then the general section. So, it is convenient for me that I don't have to scroll to the bottom for it.
