Signature talk WAS:Userbar limits?
Evening all, and happy new year!
A question for Owen, really, but could you implement a limit of userbars, most of them are purely pointless and also have tendencies to transmit viruses if the URL has been left into the user's sig. Some are also quite rude and inappropriate for minors.
It is also quite annoying when a user has a large amount of userbars in their sig, such as a certain member whom I shall not reveal the name of.
Just a suggestion.

Re: Userbar limits?
One simple solution is to disable display of the signature in your preferences.

This is likely the best thing.Alberth wrote:One simple solution is to disable display of the signature in your preferences.
If any particular users concern you, though, or have offensive material that I haven't noticed, please PM me about them.

Re: Userbar limits?
Well, regarding userbars, I have a small problem. I have two banners below and I've tried putting them one aside the other but I just can't do it right, they get one over the other all the time. What's the trick please?
EDIT: Or, are they too long to be put aside each other?
(see below)

They look next to each other on my pc, Voyager One. Viewing the world through a 1920x1080 resolution.
Re: Userbar limits?
Works for me too, as soon as my FireFox window is 993 pixels wide (or larger).

Re: Userbar limits?
A-ha, that's resolution dependant too? No wonder... I'm using 1024x768, I have to because of my work.
Problem solved, thanks!
EDIT: BTW, Anders, I just LOVE that Lego Santa's hat on your avatar!

Re: Userbar limits?
Technically, signatures shouldn't be wider than 468 pixels and 60 pixels high. So you can have one of those in your signature, but not both. I may let this slip for now if nobody complains, but it's definitely pushing it!

Re: Userbar limits?
Not a problem, I'll reduce their length. I don't like them too much anyway.
Re: Userbar limits?
Owen, wasn't that rule from the 640x480 screen resolution age? Surely everyone now at least has 1024x768...

Re: Userbar limits?
You can use my 2CC Trainset one for now if you want - that old one is really outdated anyway, many of those locootives have received graphical tweaks, and your work definitely deserves more recognition (you drew over half the 2CC trainset after all)Voyager One wrote:Not a problem, I'll reduce their length. What happened to the "Just as long as it doesn't stretch a one line post" rule?orudge wrote:Technically, signatures shouldn't be wider than 468 pixels and 60 pixels high. That's true on the desktop, but what about mobile devices and netbooks?Hyronymus wrote:Owen, wasn't that rule from the 640x480 screen resolution age? Surely everyone now at least has 1024x768...
I don't believe that was ever made an official rule, it was more a guideline (which I broadly still stick by). And that's related to height rather than width.XeryusTC wrote:What happened to the "Just as long as it doesn't stretch a one line post" rule?
Generally, we're not going to come and shout at you because your signature is 500 pixels wide or 100 pixels high. But if you have seventy images there, or 20 lines of text, you'll likely get a talking to, and your signature completely removed if you don't fix it when asked by a moderator.

Re: Userbar limits?
Thank you but I have another idea. I've already started drawing it. It will be "one" banner for 2ccTS and DTS both... you'll see, soon.Emperor Jake wrote:You can use my 2CC Trainset one for now if you want

Re: Userbar limits?
Nah, I won't go that far.
Just a nice combination of the two banners with some extra vehicles involved.

On my Mobile and iPod Touch, it shows Voyager One's as a Full Long Bars. When I zoom in it stays the same and I just scroll across.orudge wrote:That's true on the desktop, but what about mobile devices and netbooks?Hyronymus wrote:Owen, wasn't that rule from the 640x480 screen resolution age? Maybe Owen should get a new mobile phone .A321Pilot wrote:On my Mobile and iPod Touch, it shows Voyager One's as a Full Long Bars. Re: Userbar limits?
Oi, I have an iPhone 4S. But the iPhone has a good mobile browser, many other phones have crappy browsers. And, as I say, netbooks, etc, also tend to have smaller resolutions. So mostly I just want people to be reasonable with their signatures.
Re: Userbar limits?
I have a Nokia C3 smartphone, a small screen with Opera Mini, all is ok when I zoom in.
