To be fair, I see us losing to Iceland on PenaltiesRedirect Left wrote:Argh poo. France ended up coming up from 1-0 down to Ireland to a 2-1 victory. Which means if we do win Iceland, we'll face the home team of France. I can already smell the end of our path coming up, even if we do manage to get past Iceland.

What the flipping flippity flip.
ENG 1 - 2 ICE/ISL @ FT
In the words of the commentators. Ignominy for England.

It happened
Honestly, even after the 1:2 I was fairly sure that sooner or later Iceland would be too tired to fight back.
But ... well, sorry, England was atrocious. Could've been 1:3 or something.

Well done to Iceland!
Since Scotland's not in the competition, my support (such that it is) is behind Wales (my Dad is half-Welsh). Good luck to them.

Re: Euro 2016
I called it. Iceland to beat England. I'm loving it. King Lars Lagerbäck, the coach. His 7th game against England and still no loss. Iceland moved a mountain just to get to the Euros. Another mountain to go through the group stage. They just moved an entire mountain range just now.

Right. Collection of the best tweets:
* Only England could leave Europe twice within one week.
* This is literally the worst day in the history of England since last week.
* Here's hoping this doesn't take away that positive vibe England have been enjoying lately.
* Beaten by a country with more volcanoes than professional football players.
OK that's all for now sorry for gloating!

Re: Euro 2016
Just in case anyone's been "extraordinarily rendered" in the last 14 hours, Wales beat Belgium 3-1 last night so will play a decidedly lacklustre Portugal in the semi finals on Wednesday. What odds on a Wales v. Iceland final?

A certain impossibility currently. Iceland are currently trailing France 5-1.61653 wrote:What odds on a Wales v. Iceland final?
On the plus side, Iceland will finish the competition having scored in all of their matches, and having got through to the quarter finals, something i doubt many expected at the start.
edit: Match ended FRA 5 - 2 ICE. Reykjavik is now Rektjavik.

Re: Euro 2016
I think 5-2 against one of the strongest teams in the competition, several stages further than they were expecting, isn't a bad result for them. Of course, it's not the one they were wanting, but for them to go out and win the second half (irrelevant, I know, but massive for them I'm sure) just show how much of a team spirit they have!Redirect Left wrote:Match ended FRA 5 - 2 ICE. Unfortunately it was a round too far for the Icelandics....
Hopefully the Welsh can carry on, and win the competition though, be nice for me to win the Sweepstake at work

Re: Euro 2016
My sister-in-law put on a £10 bet for every team to score at least once in the Euros, or something along those lines - came out with £330 yesterday. Jammy git.
I would love it if Wales makes it to the final. Let's hope so, it'd be "amazeballs", as I think the kids say these days.

Very much a retired regular poster..... If you can say that
Re: Euro 2016
Portugal has yet to win a game by full time. I'd rather have Poland in the semi finals against Wales who fairly beat the Belgian squad.
At the start of the Euros, I said France would win courtesy of home advantage and all. They're now up against the German football machine. That sounds like the real final. The winner there should win the whole thing.

Re: Euro 2016
Well, sadly the Welsh run in Euro 2016 is over, losing 2-0 to Portugal after a rather uneventful first half, Portugal quickly wracked together 2 goals in the second half.
So the final is Portgual vs France or Germany. My money is on Germany personally for that. Looking to see Germany go the length now for me!

Re: Euro 2016
Sigh. Well, it certainly looked good at times, but a stupid handball by Schweini and then another mistake by Kimmich ...
Re: Euro 2016
Still got my bet intact there. Germany vs France was the more final. Portugal is a much weaker team than in recent years but they were very lucky in their draw. Had Iceland not scored a goal against Austria at the very end, Portugal would have had to face England, France, and Germany on their way to the finals. They got away with beating Croatia, Poland, and Wales.Chrill on 10th June wrote:I think it's Germany or France to win it
I am very much rooting for France now.

I'd be disapppointed if Portugal won. They have been very lackluster the entire competition.

Re: Euro 2016
The winner of Euro 2016, ladies and gentlemen.
PORTUGAL
After a rather lackluster start middle and end to the competition for them, they managed to pull through to go 1-0 against France during the 30 minute Extra Time.
