Re: Simutrans
Simutrans is an old game, and has had its own section here at TT-F since at least 2003, judging by the oldest thread in there.
The game is still frequently updated, however.

Re: Simutrans
Simutrans also has its own forum, more active than our subforum.
My Scenarios:
Archipiélago Hermoso (Latest Release: Version 3.2)
Turnpike Falls (Latest Release: Version 0.91)

Re: Simutrans
There used to be a statue of me in Simutrans, many years ago (we're probably talking 15 years ago), because I did some development work on it. I don't know if it's still there!
Re: Simutrans
I dug in the source an, yes you are still with your monument.

I like to look at great maps and see how things flow. A little like a finished model railway, but it is evolving and actually never finished. http://www.simutrans.com

Re: Simutrans
Now I kind of want to play Simutrans to see if I can find where the orudge statue appears ingame, unless it exists purely as a graphic with no hooks to the actual game?

Re: Simutrans
Simutrans in open source, isn't it?
It will be excellent if there is OTTD on steam platform.

Quite the opposite I think, although given the age I imagine it's not that hard to just ask the developers for those things.ir1n1o57 wrote:Simutrans in open source, isn't it?
Also, Finding truly free game is hard (because it is hard to make one). It's a great story how OpenTTD came into being, and moving it to Steam means some disrepancy between Steam framework and the current framework...
In my views, OpenTTD is a tip of the hat to Transport Tycoon's popularity and fan base, that's it. It's not an attempt to gain profits or fame ; it's just an attempt to cherish the community. Chris Sawyer being still actively developing his ideas of Transport Tycoon means that hope is not yet lost in seeing yet another incarnation of the game.

Re: Simutrans
You'd need to add some financial incentive for Valve.
Free games on that are generally powered by micro transactions, a % of which is kept by Valve. As soon as you start doing that, you're probably going against some sort of profiteering stuff with open software and using the TT name or something.
Re: Simutrans
EDIT : It turns out that Simutrans is actually open-source. It's just some graphic sets aren't really open, as that page indicates.YNM wrote:Quite the opposite I think, although given the age I imagine it's not that hard to just ask the developers for those things.ir1n1o57 wrote:Simutrans in open source, isn't it?

Re: Simutrans
I don't see any yet, but if you see one (and it's not in legal battle or somesuch), there's a larger probability it's going to be based off Locomotion, a game that Chris Sawyer actually envisage as the successor of TT(O) and TTD. It's the case in Google Playstore. Gameplay is nearly the same but the objects etc are far different as it's based off Roller Coaster Tycoon's "game engine" (chris only writes in assembler I think, no existing game engines there).ir1n1o57 wrote:How about original transport tycoon on steam?

Re: Simutrans
There's a depot icon within the track-building bar. Been a long time playing it, don't remember them exactly anymore. But be aware that some "railtypes" doesn't have depots due to unfinished state in some paks or actually meant to be left that way.ir1n1o57 wrote:By the way I installed simutrans and put track, but I can't run a train on it.
