Top Gear "dream team" announced by BBC

Post by Nawdic »

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/celebri ... rkson.html

Philip Glenister, Jodie Kidd and Guy Martin have been revealed by the BBC to be the "dream team" for the revamp of Top Gear.

My opinion you say? Less Jodie Kidd, more Rachel Riley. Nuff said.
Very much a retired regular poster..... If you can say that

Luckily I don't know any of them, so I can approach this totally unbiased and without any prejudice ...

... it's going to suck \o/

I was hoping for someone like Damon Hill or David Coulthard :P Still, like the poster above said, I can approach this with a neutral state of mind. It's not going to suck, it's just going to be something different than the TopGear I know.

What about Jeremy, Hamster & Captain Slow? They are just out of contract, so they still can be brought back.

Who, who, and who?

To be honest, I've lost interest in Top Gear now. I watched it because of the original trio and how entertaining they were. That, and I could relate to their antics in some ways with myself and my two best mates.
For me, it would be like replacing the cast of Blackadder. Simply wouldn't be the same at heart.

But hey-ho. It was inevitable someday...

Literally my first response.

Admittedly over the past few years, I had somewhat lost touch with TG, and mainly only watched the specials around christmas/new year, or when a celebrity I was particularly fond of took part in the Star In A Reasonably Priced Car segment.

I really cannot forsee TG going forward beyond 2016 currently.

edit: noticed this on the BBC, Top Gear is once again being investigated for something, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-32590963

Do neither of you watch television?

Glenister was DCI Gene Hunt in Life on Mars - one of the greatest things the BBC has ever done - and Ashes to Ashes - slightly less good but still brilliant television. He's well known as a narrator of documentaries and has also been presenting For the Love of Cars, about restoring classic British motoring icons - it's currently in its second season.

Martin has done loads on channel 4 about engineering and also races motorbikes (having competed in the Isle of Man TT)

Kidd is a model, but she's always been interested in motor sport and has competed in the Gumball plenty of times - she's been on Top Gear too.

Kidd I can maybe understand, but Martin is on television fairly regularly, and you can have NO excuse for Glenister. For shame.

Unless it's a quiz show, Red Dwarf, Star Trek, American Dad or Doctor Who, generally speaking, no.

Glenister was also a "Star In The Reasonably Priced Car" back in the stone age. By far the best person 'I've seen on telly recently.

Kidd is a bit "substandard" IMO, I would've appreciated someone like Vicki Butler-Henderson (back) in the show.

Guy Martin is class. Love that man. Can't see him taking on the role though. Just don't think he'd want to do it.

Think replacing the old topgear, is going to be a challenge. The thing that made it, was the three presenters and their interaction with each other.

If topgear comes back with new presenters they will have to "perform" as the public will judge them against the old presenters, and if the "public" deem them light, the "public" might watch something else.

Don't forget Jodie Kidd currently presents on this: http://www.channel5.com/shows/the-classic-car-show

Caught a bit of it once, I thought she wasn't that funny but it was one of the first episodes so perhaps just finding her feet.

Could the BBC throwing everyone a bone to hide what's really going on? Or have they created a new show on a rival channel?

http://tvplus.co.za/is-top-gear-making-a-comeback/
Top Gear fans went completely crazy late Tuesday evening when Jeremy Clarkson shared a very promising photo on Twitter. It even got fans asking whether Jezza’s already working on a new show…

Sharing a pic of a gorgeous, bright yellow Corvette ZO6, Jeremy not only hinted that he’s testing cars again but also filming his tests. This was made even more clear with a film crew standing in the background. “I took this today…” Jeremy tweeted along with the pic. Immediately, fans took notice of the film crew. Some even claimed that former Top Gear co-host Richard Hammond was standing to the far left.

So, could it be? Could the Top Gear crew be back? Well, earlier this week Jeremy, Richard and James May were spotted at a fancy hotel in various supercars. This gives fans hope that the terrible trio will be back sooner than expected.

They mentioned that Netflix is interested in the trio - new show for them possibly?

Edit: Sunday Times review possibly?

That could well be Richard Hammond in the background. I wouldn't be surprised if this is BBC simply "wrapping up" the current series so that they can be aired this summer.

I'd be a little surprised by that - they are I believe planning to air as much of the unaired footage as they can, but I wouldn't expect they'd get Jeremy back in at this time.

Jeremy has released a bunch of his own DVDs and so on, though, so it's quite possible this may be for something like that.

Well, he was not part of the dream team was he?

I'd like to see a Formula 1 profile drafted in. Eddie Jordan maybe?
