Eurovision Song Contest 2015
Madame et monsieur, le Concours Eurovision de la chanson.
I see from the Thread of Randomness that the Eurovision Song Contest discussion has started, so as we have one yearly and it's 32 days until the first Semi-Final, we'll kick off the official discussion thread.
Usually I'll avoid watching or listening to the songs before the contest but this year, I'll actually heard them all. Quite a few good ones. Honestly not sure who will win though - I'm liking Estonia and Czech Republic. Italy also comes in strong.

Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2015
Iceland, who are stalwarts of the competition are fearing a potential forced withdrawal this year, after a strike at the company who usually handle their televoting.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-news-fr ... e-32305077
Iceland are also the only northern Europe country yet to win, an achievement i suspect they'll still have in 2016, as this years entry is... actually quite good, but it seems this is another good year listening to the other songs. I think it'll struggle amongst them.

I'm sure I read somewhere that they would get in external help to count the televotes which would be overseen by PwCRedirect Left wrote:Iceland, who are stalwarts of the competition are fearing a potential forced withdrawal this year, after a strike at the company who usually handle their televoting.

Had a quick google, I can't see to find anything for that, although there is still articles relating to this, the latest is from just 3 hours ago.
Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2015
I have a feeling Sweden will do quite well this year. Top 5 shouldn't be impossible.
Our entry, Måns Zelmerlöw - Heroes, has been forced to redo their routine because it's apparently too similar to some other show.
Have you heard about Finland? It's a punk band singing about Down's syndrome. It's less than 2 minutes long.

Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2015
I'm a little bit disappointed that Serbian song will be in English. This is first time in history that we don't send song in our language...

Can we still count on Greece being rubbish? I feel tradition is lost if it is actually decent.

Some ten years ago, they won.Doorslammer wrote:Can we still count on Greece being rubbish? I feel tradition is lost if it is actually decent.
She is actually Swedish, and competed in our national selections last year but failed to get nominated for the big contest.

I feel that recently they have been sending rather poo people just because if they win, Eurovision would bankrupt the country. Hosting it isn't cheap at all.Doorslammer wrote:Can we still count on Greece being rubbish? I feel tradition is lost if it is actually decent.

Oh yes, this would be an immediate winner. I saw this episode not too long ago on a channel we get in Scandinavia called BBC Brit!Dave wrote:

Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2015
I posted that pic because the premise of them winning the Song for Ireland with such a terrible song was that the producers couldn't afford to keep hosting it.
Which was the reason (allegedly!) that they put forward Rock n' Roll Kids - which was meant to be rubbish! Of course, it went on to amass a record (then) number of points.
They then did the same in 1995, as Wikipedia says:

They then did the same in 1995, as Wikipedia says:
There was much speculation in Ireland as to whether RTÉ had deliberately chosen a song perceived as not having a good chance of winning in order to avoid hosting the contest for a fourth time in a row - although this was never verified. This rumour did, however inspire a popular episode of Father Ted. In any event, RTÉ ended up hosting the contest once again in 1997.
