Re: Who's the cleverest on here?
History it is then. To make it official: Orudge please remove Transport and replace it with History 1 : Easier.
I was just looking over the Category Listing and the easy categories that we have been going with for the past several months are also the categories with the least number of questions associated with them. If we want to avoid repeat questions after a few months we may, perhaps, have to bump up the difficulty a bit. Thoughts?

History 1 it is for tomorrow. With regards to bumping up the difficulty of others a bit, that may not be a bad thing - add a bit more challenge to it, which is good now that we have a number of people playing again.
Re: Who's the cleverest on here?
The more people that play the better the points awarded, and I will win this month ......

We shall see what the future brings - as regards both the difficulty settings and Badger's Boast.

Well, he's certainly living up to his boast today, beating me by a mere two seconds.
Seriously. That's some trolling you're doing, Badger. (Let's just ignore I managed to finagle my way into then-first place, over lordmwa, by just three seconds.)

Re: Who's the cleverest on here?
I'm rather annoyed that I changed my mind on one of my questions today (from the correct answer to a wrong one) - if I'd got 10/10 with my time, I'd be number 1, and instead I'm number 7.
Re: Who's the cleverest on here?
I was away over the weekend and missed days 1 + 2 but a good few days and i may have a chance - not so good today though

I've finished 2nd or 3rd to Nite Owl for far too many months, as has Owen. I will beat him one day!Melfice wrote:Well, he's certainly living up to his boast today, beating me by a mere two seconds.

Re: Who's the cleverest on here?
Maybe we should change the rules of the contest so that the person who comes second gets to pick the rounds in the following month. The winner would still be the winner, of course, but hopefully it might help break the stranglehold of one person being winner forever, which would potentially seem to be the case if that person then gets to pick their favourite rounds. Would keep people on their toes a bit!
(Of course, inevitably what would happen then would be that it'd be the month Badger finally manages to beat Nite Owl, who would then be in second place and get to pick the round! )

Last place again. Ah, the sweet taste of failure.

Re: Who's the cleverest on here?
Works for me. I have always asked for input from others when re-selecting categories, although not always successfully. The only category I have been tied to is the Movie category as it is a favorite subject of mine. In fairness though it is also a favorite of Badger's who beats me at it quite often when it rolls around. Yes - I have been on a long winning streak in our Trivia Contest but nothing lasts forever. It just seems that way sometimes.orudge wrote:Maybe we should... <snip>

Re: Who's the cleverest on here?
It would've helped if I actually answered all the questions yesterday, somehow I managed to leave a couple empty. Fail.

Re: Who's the cleverest on here?
Got completely stumped by the question:
"5. This is Japan's third-largest city and is where its famous namesake castle, once one of Japan's largest, has been located since 1586. The city is at the mouth of the Yodo River and is one of Japan's commercial and industrial hubs."
The fact is that although Yokohama is actually Japan's 2nd biggest city (after Tokyo of course), putting Osaka in 3rd place, most of us think as Yokohama as a suburb of Tokyo and thus the order goes Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya. The confusing thing is that Nagoya has a famous castle, is on the mouth of a river, and is a major commercial and industrial hub (particularly for cars!).
In the end, it was the seemingly insignificant thing bit about the Yodo river that confirmed it, since the Keihan Private line terminates at Yodoyabashi (The house on the bridge of the Yodo river).

So I'm first at the moment. I can't imagine that will last.

Re: Who's the cleverest on here?
An interesting month so far - the relative newcomer Born Acorn has a 5 point lead, and the "usual crowd" (Nite Owl, Badger and myself) are in 5th-7th place!
Re: Who's the cleverest on here?
ive had a a good start compared to usual but today is the start of the end i think

The month is yet young. Whatever way it goes only time will tell the tale.

Re: Who's the cleverest on here?
It did take a couple of months to get my times down to a par with the rest of you.
Re: Who's the cleverest on here?
Even more weird is that I'd consistently been at the bottom until yesterday, when I was miles quicker than anyone else.
Hmm, what should I put here...
