Definitely better than the Christmas special with that mahoosive cyberman, in fact it does irritate me how in the finales and specials they keep trooping out the same bad guys...

"He lost all his money, he invested in the Icelandic banking system..."

Classic. I was also glad to see The Doctor putting his sonic screwdriver down in favour of that manliest of tools, the humble hammer.
In that episode of The Hugh Dennis Story, Hugh Dennis was played by Brad Pitt, Steve Punt was played by Hugh Dennis, and the band was Showaddywaddy.

I liked yesterday's episode, but it looked very low - budget, what also mystified me was the army type regiment that they had - admittedly i missed the whole last series (no TV) but Lee whateverhisnameis was very good. Michelle Ryan struggled to not break into her Eastenders-esque accent, but it was very good nonetheless.

Well, remember also that this episode is also meant to be a relatively "happy" episode - i.e., one that isn't particularly dark and brooding, as a lot of Doctor Who has been as of late. It wasn't an overly fantastic episode, but it was enjoyable enough, and things are set to get a lot darker (and hopefully better!) in the next three episodes. Next episode is due to be broadcast in November-ish, it seems.

Are you (or anyone who is actually noticed) trying to tell me that the next (new) episode of Doctor Who won't be until next season?
-Also-
Why did Doctor Who end so early this season (USA: 2008-2009 version)? It ended in January to my utter horror (I have been dying to say that)

I am very tempted to get something geeky but Doctor Who-ish *cough* Image*cough*
I am currently innactive on these forums, but I will come here every once in a while to check up on things.

Doctor Who, since the 2005 resurrection, has always been 13 episodes long for a series. There have been four full-length series, usually with a Christmas special too. There are now a handful of specials this year (the next being in November or so), before the next full-length series, starring a new Doctor, in April 2010.

The Eastern Daily Press bloody love him because he went to the UEA. They get very attached to people with even a vague Norfolk connection. Annoyingly, the Darkness feature quite heavily too...

I'm uncertain of this new guy. I mean, not because of the age, but he just doesn't seem very doctorish. Chris Ecclestone and David Tennant had this "good times" vibe around them when they were announced, but Matt Smith seems very serious.

And Tennant is a legend and bloody hard act to follow, no matter how good an actor you are. Pity the sod stepping into Tennant's shoes.

I remember when I first saw David Tennant though, and I thought, "hmm, he doesn't seem like he'll be like the Doctor I've come to know and love!", or somesuch. I daresay Steven Moffat, who has written some of the best Doctor Who stories of the modern series, wouldn't have picked Smith unless he was very good. ;)

If Moffat's series falls flat (and it won't, but in case it does), I will actually consider hurling myself under 153311.

I saw 153312 yesterday, incidentally. Close, but no cigar.

If Doctor Who dies, then I will certainly have no reason to live! All my favourite TV shows have ended except for Who and associated spin-offs. :(

But we've had crappy assistants in the past. (if you can call them that anymore) Like Catherine Tate.

Whaaaaaat! Personally I believe Tate was an excellent actor and assistant - and brought a welcome sprig of maturity into a traditionally "bimbo" role

Catherine Tate was quality on every level.

Far too much stigma from previous roles. So many people wrote her off and she was awesome.

I think a lot of people, myself included, were not so keen on Tate in the Christmas special, particularly since SHE LIKED TO SHOUT A LOT AND SAY "DOCTOOOOOOOOOOOR!" too much. But... when they brought her back for an actual series, she turned out to be really quite good. It was nice to have an assistant that wasn't fawning over the Doctor all the time, too.

And an immense improvement on the wooden Freema Agyeman :?

I really hope she doesn't turn up in Torchwood.
