Wouldn't surprise me if some of the unused tunnels on the London Underground are hiding a man cave or two, or some of the unused underground spaces some rail stations have from past things. I know Huddersfield Railway Station has a chunk of abandoned corridors and rooms below rail level from older stuff, for example.

I've cleaned this up a bit.

This thread is indeed for randomness, but one word posts or just an image are perhaps too random. Try to post actual posts here.

I mean I know there's a designated topic for funny images, but I think this was all perfectly in the spirit.

In particular, I cleaned up a certain user's posts that include just a single name without context, or unintelligible English rambling. The photos as such, perhaps could've been fine.

So whilst pouring out a shot of vodka for the 18th TT-F birthday. I realised, the vodka I drink, Absolut, is actually Swedish, from Åhus specifically. I had always assumed it was Russian. Who knew those Swedes knew how to make a great tasting vodka!

It's not Swedish anymore!! They've sold our "Vin och Sprit" (literally "Wine and Sprits", a Government run alcohol manufacturer) to France I believe. They're the ones who produce Absolut.

We do have some decent alcohol here. My favourite is the "Nya Carnegiebryggeriet" (the New Carnegie Brewery), they make some great beers. Find the 100W IPA if you can, so named for the lampbulb factory historically located right next to the brewery in Stockholm.

Aw, that isn't reflected on the bottle nor the wikipedia page yet, unless the French are still producing the alcohol in Åhus.

Well hopefully you can win the Eurovision Song Contest again, then I have a reason to go to Sweden and taste all the alcohol.

They may still be producing it here, but we no longer own it! Absolut Vodka was genuinely operated by the government up until the late 00s or early 10s, so that's something.

Wikipedia:
Absolut Vodka is a brand of vodka, produced near Åhus, in southern Sweden. Absolut is a part of the French group Pernod Ricard. Pernod Ricard bought Absolut for €5.63 billion in 2008 from the Swedish state. Absolut is one of the largest brands of spirits in the world (after Officer's Choice, Smirnoff, Bacardi) and is sold in 126 countries.

That's highly likely to happen in the coming years. We tend to win every now and then.

I made this prediction regarding the US election in late September, can't find the exact date.

I guess I got Florida and Georgia mixed up (oopsie!), and I incorrectly expected Maine's 2nd to flip to Biden. However... pretty accurate, with what Georgia and Pennsylvania going blue and Nevada+Arizona currently tilting to Biden as well. Biden's advantage in Arizona shrinking but not currently fast enough for it to go red, however it will be very close and Arizona could definitely still end up in the hands of Trump.

Pennsylvania and Georgia will be close and the loser will almost certainly demand a recount. Trump has already demanded a recount in Wisconsin.

Additionally, the battle for the Senate (without control of which a Biden administration would be blocked at every turn) will be dragged out into at least one runoff election in January, in Georgia. The second Georgia seat going to a runoff is one of the Democrats' only remaining chances to regain control of the chamber.

I don't see the Democrats reaching 50-50 in the Senate, which is disappointing for the party, even with a January runoff in Georgia. That election will be treated like a Presidential election 2.0, but the more right-leaning Democrats might be tempted to vote against their own party to stop what they fear is a "socialist agenda" (or, what I as a Swede consider common sense) of a progressive environmental policy, and similar.

We haven't had a one-term President in a long while. That'll be Trump's legacy.

I've been thinking exactly that; it would be the perfect slap in the face for him to be the first in 28 years to be kicked out. Last was Bush Sr. who said he wouldn't raise taxes and then got pushed to raise taxes.

He also vehemently opposed mail-in voting and discouraged his supporters from sending ballots remotely, and is now shocked to find that he's getting no mail-in votes. I gotta say, I'm surprised he's losing in Georgia now.

I really hope the sanity returns there, given that it's been lost in a few other places that put my mind out of peace. Most disturbing things remains on the home front, a complete 180° flip to what I thought they wanted to do given their apparent interests earlier.

Still though, a definite step-down are needed from the old powers. The only way for them to rise back up and re-lead the world would be a re-invention, which means it'll take a while. Normalization is a welcomed first step however.

This may have to be split into a separate topic. And politics online never works well.

Still, Donald Trump has achieved one positive lasting legacy. Americans know more than ever how corrupt their leaders are. The left has vehemently opposed him. I hope they keep watching Biden closely, and criticizing him when need be. Trump was the wake up call USA needed, but Biden is the one USA needs to use to make actual change. Transparency, honesty, accountability. Don't waste this by allowing Biden to "play for the gallery" (a Swedish idiom meaning doing things for show, not doing them for real).

EDIT: Window dressing, I suppose, is an English term of equivalent meaning

We're putting our cat down today. He's 20 years old, born in June 2000, so we've known it's been coming for quite some time. Still, it all feels quite unreal. I've lived with him longer than I did with my younger siblings, and he's older than my two youngest brothers.

People always say "my cat is like no other cat!" and obviously that's always true for the individual. Pepper really is a character, he never learned to meow properly and just sort of... howls. He's a typical knee cat, can never get enough of cuddling and is always by our side. I'll miss him dearly.

I’m sorry to hear that. Such a constant and long-lived presence in your household will surely be missed.
