Re: The Formula One Topic
MGPs are just too fast on the straight. Impossible to overtake them with the classic maneuvers for Spa or Monza. The only hope Ferrari has is somehow beat them in qualifying, then hope they can keep them behind.
But even just somewhat keeping up with the MGPs on such a high speed course is pretty good. Frankly, I don't think the Ferrari is good enough for the title this season. If Vettel does it nonetheless, all the more credit to him, but I don't think it'll be enough, unless Hamilton has a lot of bad luck for the rest of the season.
But next one? Who knows.

Re: The Formula One Topic
Not sure if you followed practice before Spa, but for some reason the difference between compounds was really quite small here. Vettel probably did have an advantage but not for long. His chance was after the restart but Hamilton handled that masterfully. After that the dirty air compromised, if not eradicated, the tyre advantage Vettel held.Pilot wrote:Vettel was on a tyre two compounds softer/faster, yet couldn't overtake Hamilton in the last 15 laps. Of course, after a while the Ultra's would have gone off, but it's not really a good sign if Vettel can't pass in the early stages of his stint despite being right behind, surely?
It could also suggest that Mercedes are hiding their pace for Monza, or maybe I'm just reading in to it a little too much After all though, Hamilton kept Vettel over 1 second behind comfortably throughout, even when on the slower tyre, so it just doesn't quite sit right with me.

What a race. I'm a Ferrari man through and through, I was shouting at my TV at that first corner of the race. Oh my.
Still a great race, fatigue setting in for several drivers and mechanical mishaps taking out even more. In the end, only 11 drivers finished proper (plus Wehrlein a distant 2 laps down). Palmer in P6, Sainz P4. Ricciardo, P2, almost DNFed too with an ailing gearbox.
Hamilton probably decided this title battle now. I struggle to see how Vettel can get those points back. One DNF for the Brit, that's what we need, and it's all back in play.

Only way I see Hamilton retiring at the minute is if someone crashes into him, that Merc seems rather reliable this season.

Very much too little too late. The last two years have been an utter humdrum of not a lot happening at the back of the grid.Chrill wrote:Aaaand he's P6.Doorslammer wrote:Glad Palmer is off. What a waste of a seat that was.

I'm just disappointed for HUL. He always seems to have bad luck when things go his way.
As for Vettel, well, bit of bad luck but could (should, perhaps) in that position also have risked less. Stupid move.

Also, that tweet from Ferrari after the incident, wording it in such a way that they blame Verstappen, while it really are the Ferrari's that were to blame for the incident.

Re: The Formula One Topic
Vettel did the right thing. Kimi did the right thing. Verstappen certainly did too. It just so happened that all together, three rights made a wrong. And Vettel was the one who could have avoided it, however he would have to know Raikkonen was on the inside. Had Raikkonen not been there, Vettel would have pushed Verstappen to the edge a bit more, then entered turn 1 side by side and probably come out first through corners 1-3. Raikkonen would have been squeezed, maybe P5 behind Alonso and Hamilton. Ricciardo down into P6. That would've been it.
Rain didn't affect it, this would have happened anyway with the great start by Raikkonen.

In a plot twist, MGP orders Bottas to take out Kimi so Kimi can't take out Hamilton. Ferrari then hires Sauber to crash Hamilton while being lapped, but MGP counters with trading their engines to McLaren to have them take out the Saubers first.

Then a plot twist to the plot twist, Massa "accidentally" crashes into Vettel, and Hamilton wins the championship

Maybe there'll even be blood. And romance. When the two Force India drivers publicly reconcile in a hot kissing scene, now that they can both be on the podium since everybody else is out of the races.

Kvyat has been benched for two races by his team, and will be replaced by Pierre Gasly.

Yes. He has. It's about time.
Well, they have not announced that it is indeed for two races only, but the coming two race weekends in F1, Gasly is free. The third weekend clashes with Super Formula, so we'll see if they want to let Gasly run there and slot Kvyat back into the car.
I'd prefer Felix Rosenqvist, but then again I am Swedish.

Really a great race today, lot's of overtaking, a great last edition of the Malaysian GP.
Maybe he can fill in during the USA GP, while Gasly is doing his race in the Super Formula.Chrill wrote:Yes. He has. It's about time.
