This thread did turn out quite interesting, I think purno is right about this:
Nothing more, nothing less.
If someone wants to apply for a function such as mod, then he/she must wait till owen thinks it's right. Right?
Well now, because of the question is why (the question of geo.c ghost) his topic was removed/deleted/whatever is because it was to much off-topic to comprehend in within the forum walls. It had nothing to do with TT, it had nothing to do with topicalities, conclusion: It was to spammy.
In that case, the mod has all right to remove the thread, and maybe give a PM with an warning in it containing what was wrong about his topic. So that he will understand what he did wrong and why his topic has been removed. And since it was not in the rules about what to post in the off-topic section it should be common knowledge.
So to make an statement: The off-topic section does not contain all matters in the world but only the topicalities or in combination with TT in this case.
-----For the ones (including geo.c ghost) that were confused.-----
-Mr. X-
P.S. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, if someone insults somebody else, he might be hurt... if a moderator can prevent that...Actually, I am not sure if we should remove insulting posts... we might wanna dislpay them as warnings, or to show who the person, who wrote that post really is...
On the other hand... if somebody is insulting you, don't you have the right to know.
It happened to me once... somebody was saying something about my "color changings" and lots of ppl reacted against him. But I never got the chance to reply since the topic was locked.
thxand Purno would be a good moderator, IMHO.

Yep, it's Owen's forum, Owen should make these decisions (how ever you write that) although he probably will be advised by the current moderators. (which isn't a bad thing, actually all members should be able to voice their opinion when it comes to such things, IMO)If someone wants to apply for a function such as mod, then he/she must wait till owen thinks it's right. Right?
As if the Chips or Chocolate topic and the Watcha listening 2 @ da moment are related to TTWell now, because of the question is why (the question of geo.c ghost) his topic was removed/deleted/whatever is because it was to much off-topic to comprehend in within the forum walls. IMO off-topic posts don't have to be removed (if they don't contain any material that needs to be placed out of sight), but moved to the off-topic section, and maybe locked if it seems to be heading the wrong way (that ppl will insult others soon, for example). Anyways, the moderator should remove everything INTO the spambin, so it can be read by other moderators so that they can judge about the action. It should anyways not be removed permanently IMO.In that case, the mod has all right to remove the thread, and maybe give a PM with an warning in it containing what was wrong about his topic. So that he will understand what he did wrong and why his topic has been removed. And since it was not in the rules about what to post in the off-topic section it should be common knowledge.
In this case maybe, but not in general. There are enough not-related-to-TT topics in the off-topic section. That's why it's called "Off-Topic".So to make an statement: The off-topic section does not contain all matters in the world but only the topicalities or in combination with TT in this case.
We know some things are not allowed, but sometimes we don't know some thing was not allowed. I once posted a photo in the Pretty Girls topic which was, according to one of the moderators, too much like porn. I didn't 'rate' (don't know any other word) the photo as porn, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to post...
This means too, that when a member does something wrong but doesn't know what, it should be explained to him, even if it's 'too obvious' for the moderators... IMO.
I did, correct me too if I'm wrong.P.S. Correct me if I'm wrong.

im afraid i dont agree with applying to be a mod.
a mod should indeed do all those things, but also shouldnt mind if he isnt a mod, everyone can keep a topic on-topic, shout at spammers, and tell other users if something is inappropiate.
though being a mod does help, you can lock/edit and move posts

I'm keeping out of this discussion, but I don't agree with a lot of stuff being said here. (not in the moderator's duties kind of way, but the personal opinion way) That'll be all.

I think a moderator is someone who is devoted to keep the site properly ordened and without violation of rules.
He has to have a link with the forum and feel about it as if it was his home.
Then ofcourse he should have respect... he should have the respect of all forum members but he should have respect for those members aswell.
Thats all... for my opinion.

I personally think having "Member's Rights" which the moderators have to obey would just complicate things. The new rules - which I will (really really really!) revise and upload this weekend - spell out quite clearly the system, and that is how it's going to stay. Of course, members are welcome to question a moderator's actions, but hopefully, they won't need to.

(we are all people. Even mods are. People do mistakes. -> Even mods do mistakes. We are all people. We all do mistakes.

Now they are going to put rules on my head
Listen, if I remove double posts, spam or porn links, then I edit out certain links to it in following posts
If you don't like that, I don't care, removing a post and letting references to that in there is stupid and leads to misunderstandings
If I close something or move it to the spambin and someone has a valid point to reopen it, I will consider it or talk to the other mods
For god sakes, use your common sense, if I was a bad mod, do you think I would still be a mod after all these years

You are a good mod, because you have no reluctance to act, but you only act when you know you are in the right, and this means that you are neither trigger-happy, nor too nervous to do something when it needs doing.spaceman-spiff wrote:For god sakes, use your common sense, if I was a bad mod, do you think I would still be a mod after all these years
You know what I mean?

Those people are probably the same people that create topics that need locking in the first placespaceman-spiff wrote:I think so, I know some people here call me the locking man, but as I said, if they give me a good reason to reopen it I'll consider it
