What video games have you played lately?

I picked them up a while back on Steam but just could not get into it. I think I bought Anno 1404, which is a fairly old one. Are the newer games any better?

It's finally release. Master Hellish has started a new Let's Play series, and does some compare/contrast to OpenTTD

It depends why you didn't like the old ones. There's a bit of history here, but the TL;DR is that Anno 1800 is basically more of the same.

Anno up to 2070 had singular maps with multiple islands that all players competed on. Anno 2205 introduced sessions, whereby a session is one map which had a single island that the player built up. There were three sessions from three biomes, Temperate, Arctic and the Moon, with resources from the different biomes required to level up citizens in other biomes.

Anno 1800 takes the idea of sessions and mixes it with the old style maps with multiple islands. So you now have an entire map of temperate islands and a whole map of, what appears to be, Caribbean islands. DLCs have since introduced some extra sessions to build in but the same basic recipe lives on;
  1. Settle Islands
  2. Build production chains
  3. Settle more islands
  4. Build more production chains
  5. Move products between islands
  6. Go to 3

Anno 1800 does everything right but the session system makes it quite hectic; which just feels wrong for an Anno game. Oh, and the campaign is awful and bad and doesn't even offer a good introduction into the game.

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri mostly... Before my last save corrupted, it was looking along the lines of this:

Now I'm making the transition again to Warzone 2100.

The top screenshot looks like an anthill. Was it convenient for you to play in this format?

I just picked up Dawn of Man on Steam's Chinese New Years sale. It's a neat little game, but I do struggle when we've grown a bit. More people does mean more food, and I find it hard to get enough!

I juuuust missed the big Slipways demo during SGF, but the browser version is still eating up my free time like crazy. It's a short 4X game where you don't eXterminate, but uhh, eXhale I guess.

Very fun and very addicting. Can recommend if you liked Mini Metro.

See if you can beat my highscore ;)

My goodness, I use to Love Warzone2100. I remember playing the demo of it and it was incredible.
I never completed it without using "Biffer Baker" when I was younger. Just couldn't get past a couple of particular missions!
Finally done it a couple of years ago though :P I guess a young mind hasn't got much in the way of a honed skill and strategy haha.

Still an amazing game, and I've never found anything even nearly like it. I use to have the Project Atom as my avatar many years ago
Great.. now my nostalgia is going through the roof!

Latest game I have been playing, and streaming, was Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
I absolutely adored the first game, Blind Forest, but Will of the Wisps? I end up getting so incredibly stressed and frustrated with it when it bugs out or does incredibly annoying things by itself. It looks and sounds absolutely gorgeous.. but just doesn't play anywhere nearly as well for some reason. The checkpoints don't really help either.

CoD Mobile because I'm a South East Asian cheapskate. I need to descend another level in it though to motivate myself in finishing Epic Conquest. If only the WW2 Aerial Combat game in Android have yaw, I would have also finished it.

Aside from those though, I've finished Diablo 3 (last patched 2014), FFTA2, Lock's Quest, and Simcity Creator last year, with the first one done in Xbox 360, and the last three in desmume.

A few idle games on pc including a industry themed one, ets2 and fishing planet. On my nintendo switch it's currently monster hunter rise, animal crossing new horizons, mario kart and deadcells.

I recently went and bought the Definite Editions of all 3 Age of Empires games. The first one, I truly struggle with even on easiest settings. The other two are very easy to complete a Skirmish quickly. Still, it's good to hear "wololo" again.

Yeah, addicted to this one right now, superseding both OpenTTD and ETS2 / ATS for me (although I manage to complete trucking events)

But it's definitely different from OpenTTD, in the sense that there's no freight and there's only one big real-world based map.

I might have spent 13 hours yesterday playing the "F1 2021" mod for Motorsport Manager. Nikita Mazepin crashed out once or twice, including taking my driver out as seen in the results list here.
