TTDPatch * Hall of Fame Proposal
TTDPatch has had a long run of development. It's developers have come and gone, but "The Patch" lives on and remains a very enjoyable pastime to many by extending the capabilities of Chris Sawyer's and Simon Foster's seminal and highly successful efforts at indoctrinating us to the wonderful world(s) of Transport Tycoon and it's erstwhile successors.
Perhaps now is the time to recognize the valiant efforts all the while giving heartfelt thanks to those who pioneered "The Patch". It is most notable that they did this out of the love of a game, making contributions without thought of recompense, a most notable trait considering that one of the goals of the game is to make hoards of profits. Let their names be recorded in perpetuity lest we forget the sources of our addiction.
The proposal is for a new forum section:
Board index ‹ TTDPatch ‹ TTDPatch Hall of Fame
with the following subforums:
Board index ‹ TTDPatch ‹ TTDPatch Hall of Fame < Hall of Fame - A locked thread updatable by the forum's administrator, currently orudge.
Board index ‹ TTDPatch ‹ TTDPatch Hall of Fame < Nominations - An open thread wherein forum members can propose candidates for inclusion in the Hall of Fame.
I would like to lead off the proposals with four nominations:
- Chris Sawyer for conceptualizing Transport Tycoon.
- Simon Foster whose graphics gave life to Chis Sawyer's concepts.
- Josef Drexler (Patchman) for creating TTDPatch.
- Owen Rudge (orudge) for providing the community.

Re: TTDPatch * Hall of Fame Proposal
Well, the concept here is not so much a list of credits as it is a recognition of those whose efforts pioneered an advancement of "The Patch". I know that this sounds like the Hall would be somewhat exclusionary, but there are innumerable excellent coders and artists who found inspiration in the work of others. The Hall is a place where forum members can honor the names of those who led the way.planetmaker wrote:Sounds like ...

Excellent suggestions both. How about a short line describing their contribution(s)?Hyronymus wrote:Don't forget eis_os
A good question ... A user name would probably be most recognizable, but perhaps permission for a proper name would be advisable if one has not been used regularly in the forums?Hyronymus wrote:(not sure if you're ok with writing your real name here)

Re: TTDPatch * Hall of Fame Proposal
Something like this isn´t needed, simply because TTDPatch has its own "hall of fame".
Oh, wait ... someone removed it.
Well, the wayback machine should help.
And yes, it´s also on my site, fortunately.
regards
Michael

It's still there, although it doesn't seem to be linked from an obvious place.michael blunck wrote:Oh, wait ... someone removed it.

I have to admit that I agree with you and had I known about that page I would have forgone starting this thread.
On a related note, it would be interesting if that page could be updated to include a brief note (one liner) as to what each contributed.

Re: TTDPatch * Hall of Fame Proposal
It presumably isn't linked due to the pages that linked to it using WikiWords, which haven't been updated yet. Anyone should feel free to do so, though. But yes, every page from the TTDPatch wiki is on the new wiki, Michael, with the same name, too. I do intend to set up a redirect from the old wiki - I had to close it earlier than intended due to spammers causing serious problems, though.FooBar wrote:It's still there, although it doesn't seem to be linked from an obvious place.

That information can be easily found in chapter "Contributors" on the TTDPatch manual page (see e.g. http://www.grfspecs.ttdpatch.de).wallyweb wrote: On a related note, it would be interesting if that page could be updated to include a brief note (one liner) as to what each contributed.

Likewise, here.
Re: TTDPatch * Hall of Fame Proposal
Unfortunately the link is not very intuitive. In all my years of accessing the TTDPatch web pages and wiki, I never knew about that page until now.orudge wrote:Likewise, here.
I suggest adding those links here under "What can you find here? The main focus at the moment are" in the Welcome section. The names on those lists deserve more recognition than a corner in a broom closet at the back of the hall.

Re: TTDPatch * Hall of Fame Proposal
Those pages are only in existence since someone shut down the TTDPatch wiki and "collected" all its pages into his own, since then unknown, TTD wiki.wallyweb wrote: Unfortunately the link is not very intuitive. As has been mentioned, the original pages (manual, nfo/grf specs, railway dictionary, ECS, ...) are still accessible from here, although not in the original form of a wiki because of refusal of the original TTDPatch wiki database.

Re: TTDPatch * Hall of Fame Proposal
Mek (Marijn Kruisselbrink) seems to be missing from these lists. (Oh, joy. Please tell me I didn't just volunteer myself?)
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

Re: TTDPatch * Hall of Fame Proposal
I personally think that a whole new forum section is a bit overkill.
A stickied thread or two in General TTDPatch should suffice...
(Heh, it seems that I never got around to adding myself to those lists.)
Edit:
What happened to svn.ttdpatch.net ?
