Trams! (Work In Progress)
Moderator: TTDPatch Moderators
I've had the opportunity to test this as well, and it's up there with the Coolest features for TTDP. I'm developing some North American style streetcars (2 are already in the Canset thread).
All I can say is Steven, AWESOME work man!

At the moment it does, but as the title says, it's a work in progress. The amount of obstacles Stevenh has already overcome should mean that this one should be possible to overcome.Peter1x9 wrote:Looks awesome
However, since they are based off road vehicles, does the AI for city growth treat tram tracks just like roads? I ask because it might look a little wierd to have buildings that aren't next to any roads.
Stevenh = Genius .
Dan - I'll send you a test of this GRF so you can replace my old tram in your avatar .

How did I miss this thread? Awesome! For sure, that will be the next feature for the US Set, after we polish off the last few trains. I dare say DanMacK already has his wish-list for all three climates.

It's a nice idea, but I dunno...
I don't think IRL trolleybusses can use the same cabling as trams, because trams use the tracks as the ground-wire, which trolleybusses can't do. So you have to have TWO wires overhead, not just one.
Behavior-wise, I suppose trolleybusses would be able to turn around anywhere, and also pass slow/stopped vehicles, which trams can't do. Otherwise they'd be the same as trams, right?
Maybe slightly cheaper to build just overhead cables, but no tracks.

I think I've heard of that. I would tend to think that's not appropriate for TTD, for the same reason that we don't have hybrid diesel / electric locomotives, although those exist IRL too. TTD doesn't really lend itself to that sort of crossover capability, because it would be too hard to control in a logical way, and to give it any particular advantages.
One thing that **might** be appropriate for trams, would be to have them be able to go faster on tracks that aren't also on roads.

True, but you can make it 'just another' bit in the newroads array that allowed trantracks in the first place. Then you can give it its own look.krtaylor wrote:It's a nice idea, but I dunno...

Hmm. Interesting idea.
You might have troubles in the intersections between them though.
