Poll about electrified railways

Post by Cuirinus »

Well, I'd go for joining maglev and monorail on the monorail tracks, because they look better when making junctions. With maglev, it is hard to see where the tracks go, and where they don't go.

Let's hear what you think ...

I'm for maglev and monorail trains on the monorail tracks
Like everyone i think, those maglev tracks look terrible
the monorails look great

So the new switch was very good

// `unifiedmaglev' (-XM) makes it possible to buy monorail engines in maglev depots or vice versa. Mode: 1 - convert all maglev engines to monorail; 2 - convert all monorail engines to maglev; 3 - keep separate monorail and maglev.
unifiedmaglev 1
Well, back to work, lot's of it in the near future

I agree. The maglev just look flat and boring.

No need for a poll

This will be an option anyway, so you can choose which way you want it.

That is, when and if I manage to make electrified rails...

BTW, those old style signals you were talking about that you had to make.

Didn't TT Original have those? Wouldn't it just be to grab them from there, or "screenshoot" them? Or was it just the pre-signals you talked about?

yes, TT had some, but only in four directions, not eight, and not with the pre-signal stuff either

No, he means normal railway track with electric cables running above, so electric trains can pick up power.

Oh yeah.. that would be great... thats the only kind they have here in holland... so when this comes out... I might be able to make a good impression of the local railroads here...

EDIT: looks like I was a little too slow, but I guess my answer is a little more complete, even if it is not in so good English.

If youd had read the newsgroup lately, you would know this, but it seems like you don't.
On the latest alpha of the patch, Josef has managed to get monorail and maglev trains appear on each others' tracks. This frees up one of the track types, and we can instead use them for having standard railway tracks, but with electric lines on, to make the TT-world more "natural". It's kind of silly when the electric trains run on tracks with no electricity at all.
Of course we don't know if they'll ever make it, to replace the tracks, but I really hope they do, in time for christmas.

The introduction of electro

Post by Cuirinus »

One thing that should also be decided is when the electrified rails will be introduced.

I personally think they should be preintroduced when you start the game. That is because here in Norway we have had electric trains since before 1910, and then to start in 1950, and not get the electric trains before later on is a little absurd to me. If we get the game to start at 1930, then it would be more correct to introduce the diesel engines around the 40s, according to Norwegian railway history.
In temperate and arctic climate we have power stations, so there we could introduce the early electric, but in tropic climate they should maybe be introduced a little later.
The way we could handle this is to make the electric trains very expensive, and the tracks more than twice the price of the standard, so that you would rather choose the steam engine at first.

So, I'd like to hear your opnions on this matter too.

Thats not a bad idea. Thats more for TT2 than TTD. Maybe it can be done in TTD but accually changing the year it starts; I'm not if thats possible.

:O Let us bow our heads and pray, oh lord Josef, we will all like you to give us a new patch, as soon as it can be possible... :P

Mati,
it's already possible. Just get the 1.9.2 alpha patch. Check the config file and see what option you like.

This is one thing I've been missing in the most train sims around. The possibility of having the cables in the air. Along with the sub-arctic climate I would feel like I'm home (especially if Michaels new trains joins the game too :) )
I'm lost in space. Visiting mother earth once in a while.

It was like with the new ships, from that moment on, iwas using them a lot
Those new trains, will they be for the arctic only ?
Then i will have to play that climate too
I hope they don't limit new trains to some climates
Well, back to work, lot's of it in the near future
